Raid on Viraxo 54

This attack, which can be classified as a raid, on the Viraxo 54, a shipping platform in orbit owned by Viraxo Industries and positioned above the planet of Denbo, occurred circa 3 ABY. The Azzameen family orchestrated this raid in response to a prior sabotage attempt targeting the family's cargo fields. The Azzameen's strategy involved smuggling a cargo container filled with illegal spice into the Viraxo facility, with the intention of triggering an inspection by the local Galactic Empire forces. The Azzameens anticipated that the discovery of the illicit substance would damage the relationship between Viraxo and their Imperial allies, thereby weakening the Viraxo shipping enterprise and creating opportunities for Twin Suns Transport Services, a rival company owned by the Azzameen family, to expand its market share.

However, the raid's timing proved to be detrimental, leading to its ultimate failure. While the Azzameen YT-1300 Selu, disguised as a Viraxo-friendly craft and tasked with delivering the spice, was awaiting clearance to dock, the arrival of Azzameen ships responsible for attracting Imperial attention into the system raised suspicions about the Selu's presence. Eventually, Viraxo 54 detected the deception and disabled the vulnerable freighter, compelling its pilot, Aeron Azzameen, to request extraction from her brother's ship. Although the Azzameens managed to inflict some damage on Viraxo property, their actions did not dissuade the Imperials from continuing their partnership with Viraxo. In fact, the Azzameens' aggression towards Viraxo, coupled with their ongoing support for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, ultimately provoked the Imperialization of their home and business.

Background

Antan Azzameen, who co-owns Twin Suns Transport Services which is the Azzameen family's company, devised a strategy to retaliate against Viraxo Industries. This plan was formed after Viraxo Industries, a rival shipping company, attempted to sabotage the Azzameen family's cargo fields. The attempted sabotage was a consequence of ongoing conflicts between Viraxo and Azzameen forces, especially Azzameen interference in Viraxo's attempted raid on Harlequin Station. The Azzameens intended to pose as a regular supplier for Viraxo, delivering a cargo container filled with spice that Viraxo had previously used in their sabotage attempt. The Azzameens then planned to draw the attention of local Imperial forces who would find the container of illegal substances during a routine inspection. Antan believed this would damage the relationship between Viraxo and their allies in the Galactic Empire, weakening Viraxo Industries and allowing Twin Suns Transport Services to grow.

The Execution of the Raid

Antan sought assistance from his niece Aeron Azzameen and her brothers, Ace and Emon. Aeron installed fake transponder codes to disguise the family's YT-1300 light freighter Selu as Venix, a regular Viraxo supplier. Aeron then piloted the light freighter carrying the container of spice to Viraxo 54, which is Cargo Facility 1 of Viraxo Industries, in orbit around the planet of Denbo. While she was waiting to release the cargo, her brothers—Emon in his Firespray-31-class craft Andrasta and Ace, along with droid copilot MK-09, in another family YT-1300 freighter Sabra—entered the system. Viraxo 54 noticed the intruders and deployed its Razor-class starfighters to intercept the Azzameen craft.

However, the Azzameen brothers' arrival was poorly timed. Aeron's craft, still waiting to drop the container, faced increased scrutiny as the Sabra and Andrasta continued to dogfight the Viraxo ships. She identified the craft ahead of her as the Enkidu, a Viraxo Pursuer-class enforcement ship involved in several altercations with the Azzameens, including planting the spice in the Azzameen container. While her brothers wanted to engage the Enkidu, Aeron's cover was at risk. To avoid suspicion, she attempted to leave the system, citing the ongoing attack. Viraxo 54 ordered her to stop, and when she didn't, they ordered a starfighter to disable the fleeing YT-1300.

The Viraxo station informed the Empire that they needed assistance. MK-09 estimated that the Empire would arrive and identify the Azzameens in less than 5 minutes. Aeron, now stranded in the disabled Selu, radioed Emon for pickup, while Ace destroyed various containers and freighters around the station's exterior. After Aeron was safely aboard the Andrasta, Ace destroyed the Selu to hide the Azzameens' involvement in the raid before leaving himself. He left just as an Imperial force, including the Victory II-class Star Destroyer Intruder and its TIE/LN starfighters, entered the system to investigate.

Consequences

Although the Azzameens delivered the spice container, destroyed some Viraxo assets, and destroyed the link back to their family, the Viraxo suspected Azzameen involvement. This increased tensions between the two companies. Eventually, in retaliation for the Azzameen sabotage at Denbo, the Viraxo contacted their Imperial allies to report the Azzameens. This lead to the eventual battle at the Alliance XQ2 Platform Hospital, the Imperialization of Azzameen assets, and Ace's enlisting in the Alliance Starfighter Corps where he became one of their top pilots and flew many campaigns against Imperial forces.
