In the year 4 ABY, a fierce aerial combat, or dogfight, erupted between the Rebel Alliance's Blue Squadron and forces of the Galactic Empire. During this intense battle, Zander Freemaker piloted his heavily-modified starfighter, the Blazemaker Mark II, which he had equipped with numerous blasters. Zander utilized this enhanced firepower to eliminate a number of TIE fighters along with TIE interceptors. However, Zander's spacecraft was soon consumed by an explosion, the result of overloading it with an excessive amount of weaponry. Despite the destructive blast, Zander managed to survive.
Following their theft and subsequent destruction of the Kyber Saber, the Freemakers aligned themselves with the Rebel Alliance. The Freemakers found employment providing maintenance for the Alliance Fleet's complement of starfighters. After a series of escapades alongside the Alliance, Zander Freemaker attempted to persuade Admiral Ackbar and Lieutenant Valeria to permit him to fly a starfighter alongside Blue Squadron. Valeria, having just returned from a dogfight, refused, citing the lack of blasters on Zander's starfighter, the Blazemaker Mark II.
Not long after this, the Galactic Empire initiated a retaliatory strike against the Alliance Fleet. Lieutenant Valeria and her Blue Squadron took off to engage the Imperial forces. Spurred on by his siblings, Kordi and Rowan Freemaker, and the B1-series battle droid Roger, Zander outfitted his Blazemaker with a variety of laser cannons, including a substantial magma cannon mounted on the upper surface of the spacecraft's main body. The considerable weight of these cannons reduced the Blazemaker Mark II's speed, but Zander still succeeded in piloting the ship out of the Home One's hangar.
Zander's arrival proved opportune, as Valeria and her fellow Blue Squadron pilots were being overwhelmed by swarms of TIE fighters and TIE interceptors. Zander destroyed a TIE interceptor just before it could successfully target Valeria's A-wing. After announcing his presence via the communications system, Zander proceeded to eliminate several TIE fighters. Valeria considered the Blazemaker II to be chaotic, yet effective. Before Zander could employ his magma cannon to obliterate three trailing TIE fighters, the Blazemaker detonated, a consequence of being overloaded with too many cannons.
Zander survived the explosion, being propelled against the command bridge of the Home One. He conceded that he had perhaps gone too far, but Rowan reassured him that he was a hero of the Rebellion. Subsequently, the Freemakers participated in a mission to rescue Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca.
The clash between rebel and Imperial forces in the skies was initially depicted in "Zander Freemaker, Superstar Pilot Guy!," the fourth short video that was launched as part of the promotional campaign for LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two on May 4, 2017.
