Riot control stormtrooper
Imperial riot troopers, also referred to as riot control stormtroopers, stormtrooper chargers, or just riot troopers, were a specialized type of Imperial stormtrooper. Their function was to serve as a security force, tasked with the suppression of disruptive activities by insurgents through dispersal and apprehension.
History
Throughout the Galactic Civil War, riot control stormtroopers saw action. During the period of 5 BBY to 4 BBY, the Spectres, a rebel cell from Lothal opposing the Galactic Empire's rule, engaged in training exercises against these troopers. These exercises involved charging droids equipped with stun batons within a cave located at Haven, their secret base on Lothal.
Following the demise of Emperor Palpatine, Dexter Jettster expressed concern that the populace of Coruscant might face mass attacks by Riot Troopers as a reprisal for their celebrations of his death and their raids on the Imperial Palace.
In 5 ABY, riot control troopers were among the forces present on Takodana when Han Solo attempted to extract Ralsius Paldora. Additionally, they were aboard the Eviscerator during the Battle of Jakku, where Iden Versio deliberately crashed her X-wing into the vessel in an effort to locate her father, Garrick Versio.
Equipment
The standard stormtrooper armor was worn by riot control stormtroopers, who were armed with either batons or electrostaffs.
