"Roger Roger" is a tale presented in comic form, serving as the initial story within Star Wars Adventures (2017) issue 19, which was released on March 27, 2019.

On the surface of the planet known as Horain, a fierce battle is underway, pitting the forces of the Galactic Republic against those of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Captain Rex finds himself in dire straits, desperately needing backup as the relentless battle droids press their attack. Just in the nick of time, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi appears on the scene, rescuing him from certain defeat. Together, Kenobi and Rex fight through the waves of attacking droids, striving to reach the designated Republic Evacuation Point. A dangerous Droideka prepares to fire upon Kenobi, but Rex bravely intervenes, shielding the Jedi and absorbing the brunt of the blaster fire. Kenobi retaliates, destroying the remaining droids, but one of the blaster bolts ricochets off his lightsaber and strikes a battle droid in its processor, causing a critical malfunction. The droid becomes bewildered, questioning the ongoing conflict and the reasons behind the battle droids' aggression towards Rex and Kenobi. Deeming the situation unfair, the droid turns against its own comrades, eliminating them one by one. Rex affectionately nicknames B1-0516 "Bats," and the droid officially joins their ranks.

To successfully navigate past the enemy lines, Bats deceives his fellow B1-series battle droids, falsely claiming that Kenobi and Rex are his prisoners. Subsequently, Bats unleashes a barrage of fire, defeating the battle droids and facilitating Kenobi and Rex's escape. However, Bats is eventually captured by the CIS, who intend to subject him to thorough analysis. In response, Rex and Kenobi devise a strategy to rescue the droid from their clutches.
Within a CIS facility, a T-series tactical droid issues an order to refrain from destroying Bats. Instead, the tactical droid directs that the battle droid be reverted to its default programming and redeployed on the battlefield. Bats vehemently refuses and promptly destroys the battle droid stationed beside him. Preparing to confront the remaining droids, an armored assault tank suddenly crashes through the building's exterior. A battle droid commander is dispatched to investigate the disturbance, but is swiftly eliminated by Kenobi, who seizes Bats and successfully completes their escape.
Upon arriving at the Republic Evacuation Point, Kenobi, Rex, and Bats emerge from the tank, catching Jedi General Anakin Skywalker completely by surprise. Bats formally introduces himself to the group, and Rex develops a fondness for the battle droid, mirroring Kenobi's sentiment.
In "Roger Roger," Obi-Wan Kenobi makes a reference to returning to the Resolute, a vessel that met its demise in the Clone Wars episode "Nightsisters." This suggests that the narrative unfolds prior to that particular episode. Conversely, the clone troopers depicted in the comic are outfitted with Phase II clone trooper armor. The introduction of Phase II armor did not occur until the episode "Water War." Furthermore, Captain Rex is portrayed in this issue wearing a Phase I helmet, yet his armor more closely resembles the Phase II variant, which he did not adopt until the events of "Darkness on Umbara." Both of these episodes are situated chronologically after "Nightsisters."
