Salissia was a location that shared a name with the Salissians, a group of beings active within the galaxy during the time of the Republic Era. The Nihil, a marauder group, attacked this world following the Battle of Kur which occurred in 232 BBY. In a Senate meeting the year after this attack, Republic Senator Vaadu brought up the assault on Salissia as evidence that the remaining Nihil still presented a danger to the upcoming Republic Fair on the Outer Rim planet of Valo. However, Jedi Master Avar Kriss and the coordinator for the event, Samera Ra-oon, argued against Vaadu, stating that sufficient security would be provided, which led the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, Lina Soh, to continue to support the planning of the Republic Fair.
Within Star Wars canon, Salissia was first referenced in the 2021 novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, which was penned by Cavan Scott as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. In the Star Wars Legends timeline, the Salissia system was first mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, which was written by Jason Fry together with Daniel Wallace.
