The seismic activity team functioned as an arm of the Galactic Alliance, with the responsibility of pinpointing locations presenting seismic hazards throughout the galactic capital world of Coruscant. In the year 44 ABY, Coruscant was attacked by a Sith Tribe, along with the entity known as Abeloth, a destroyer of civilizations. Despite the defeat of Abeloth and the Sith forces, Coruscant suffered extensive devastation. Consequently, the seismic activity team was deployed to identify areas requiring detailed investigation, ultimately reporting in excess of 100,000 such locations.

The Galactic Federation of Free Alliances established the seismic activity team on the galactic capital planet Coruscant by 44 ABY. That year, the world fell under the influence of the dark side entity Abeloth – a being who emerged across the millennia to destroy civilizations – and the recently resurgent Lost Tribe of Sith. Abeloth was defeated by the New Jedi Order and the Galactic Alliance, who also eradicated the Sith. However, Abeloth's actions triggered significant groundquakes and volcanic events across the city-planet, while the last surviving Sith were hunted through the city, leaving destruction.
The seismic activity team was promptly assigned the task of assessing the extent of the damage inflicted on the world. Although the volcanic activity had subsided, they determined that the undercity had suffered so severely that a basic evaluation would likely take years. The team also faced difficulties in determining the specific causes of the widespread destruction, which included possible terrorist attacks, [magma](/article/magma-legends] flows, and structural failures. Furthermore, the undercity was saturated with poisonous gas clouds, and preliminary estimates placed civilian casualties in the billions. Ultimately, the seismic activity team reported over 100,000 locations requiring further investigation. Wynn Dorvan, the Galactic Alliance Chief of State, later communicated the team's findings to the Jedi Council and Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker.
The 2012 novel Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse by Troy Denning, which served as the ninth and final installment in the Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series, included a mention of the seismic activity team.
