Shaylai Veila, a Rutian Twi'lek female, served as the secretary for Jedi Master Kai Hudorra. Her service began after he obtained The Lucky Twi'lek on Kestavel.
Veila entered the casino with an Ithorian leading the group when Dass Jennir, Beyghor Sahdett, and the Uhumele's crew arrived, seeking Hudorra. Later, she opened the door to Hudorra's office and was instructed to prevent any interruptions to their private discussion.
Following Sahdett's betrayal, Veila assisted in cleaning up the resulting mess of bodies and wreckage. When Hudorra attempted to force his remaining staff to evacuate before the impending Imperial assault, Veila, along with Bryti, Kal, Dayn, and Nira, demonstrated their unwavering loyalty to the Jedi Master by refusing to abandon him. She and Kal subsequently helped seal the casino's entrance using concrete. During a final meal, the Twi'lek was seated to Hudorra's right as the Bothan informed everyone that only he and Jennir would remain.
As Vader and his stormtroopers advanced across the bridge toward the casino, Veila was already on board the Uhumele. She witnessed Kal catching the ziplining Greenbark, the last member of the crew to evacuate. She commented on the urgency of getting inside before the fog creatures noticed them. Veila later witnessed Hudorra's final message, a holodisc given to Jennir by Bryti, where he expressed his wish that the Force be with her.
Hudorra refers to the Twi'lek by two different names: "Veila" and "Shaylai." It is speculative which name is her first and which is her last; this article uses Veila as her surname because it is an established surname within the Star Wars universe.
