Shoran's camp
Shoran's camp, a fortified settlement, was located on the moon of Alaris Prime. This settlement was under the leadership of the Wookiee named Shoran. The camp's construction occurred during the war between the colonists of Alaris Prime, who were Wookiees, and the Trade Federation, which spanned from 39 BBY to 36 BBY. Within Shoran's camp were structures such as a command center, a spaceport, several prefab shelters, and other buildings designed for resource collection. Notably, a Jedi holocron was discovered inside the camp, which was later recovered by Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Padawan. Furthermore, forces originating from Shoran's camp engaged in an attack targeting a nearby Trade Federation listening array.
Description
Among the various Wookiee outposts established on the moon of Alaris Prime, Shoran's camp stood out. The camp's operations were directed from a command center, which was centrally located amidst five agricultural farms in the upper area. This upper section also included a northern spaceport, along with a power core and an ore processing center situated to the west. Moving to the camp's midsection, one could find an animal nursery, a pair of prefab shelters, and an additional power core. The lower part of the camp, near the entrance, housed a food processing center, a carbon processing center, and yet another prefab shelter. The western flank of the camp was characterized by a dense collection of trees, with a pathway carved through them leading to a Jedi holocron.
Encircling the entirety of the camp were defensive walls, punctuated by a southern gate and a later-added gate on the northeastern side. The eastern wall ran alongside a river. To the south lay another camp, led by the Wookiee Chewbacca, while a listening array belonging to the Trade Federation was positioned to the east. The camp benefited from access to an array of resources, including substantial ore deposits, [nerf](/article/nerf-legends] creatures, and muja fruit bushes, all of which were harvested by the nine Wookiee workers residing within.
History
The construction of the camp took place between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, coinciding with the Wookiee colonization efforts on Alaris Prime, with Shoran playing a key leadership role. During this period, the Wookiees were at war with the Trade Federation, which had initiated an illegal colonization attempt. The camp was strategically built in an area perceived to be secure. At Chewbacca's camp, Qui-Gon Jinn, the Wookiee's Jedi advisor, emphasized the importance of alliances and urged Chewbacca to construct a spaceport. Once Chewbacca's workers completed the spaceport, the Wookiees gained access to HoloNet technology, enabling them to locate Shoran's camp.
Following this, Chewbacca constructed Corellian HoverFreighters at the spaceport and dispatched them to Shoran's camp for resource exchanges, a practice reciprocated by Shoran. Subsequently, Shoran discovered the Jedi holocron within his camp and informed Jinn, who then instructed Chewbacca to erect a Jedi temple to house the artifact. Jinn also dispatched his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Shoran's camp with the mission of retrieving the holocron. As Kenobi entered the settlement, Shoran noticed a contingent of Trade Federation battle droids dispatched by the droid LUH-989 to attack Chewbacca's camp.
Shoran promptly alerted Chewbacca and Jinn about the impending attack, which Chewbacca and his Wookiee soldiers successfully repelled. In the aftermath, Shoran requested one hundred nova crystals from Chewbacca to aid in the recovery efforts, a request that Jinn and Chewbacca readily fulfilled. In return, Shoran supplied ore to Chewbacca's camp. Later on, scouts from Shoran's camp identified the Trade Federation listening array, prompting Chewbacca to suggest its destruction. A single heavy bowcaster trooper from Shoran's camp initiated an attack on the sentry posts guarding the array's entrance but was ultimately killed by the guarding droids. Subsequently, Chewbacca's forces, accompanied by Shoran, advanced through the camp toward the listening array and successfully destroyed it.
Behind the scenes
The initial mention of Shoran's camp appeared in Steven L. Kent's strategy guide published by Prima Games on November 7, 2001. This guide was for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which itself was launched on November 11 of the same year. The camp is featured in the sixth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, entitled "Allies and Jedi."
The camp is designed to teach players the mechanics of teamwork, especially through the use of spaceports. At the level's beginning, only the spaceport is visible, and the player is instructed to research the HoloNet transceiver at their own spaceport to reveal the rest of the camp. For the majority of the level, the camp has only the southern gate, but after the holocron is retrieved, a new gate appears in the north-east wall, allowing the player to attack the listening array. Unused audio files from the level depict Shoran gathering forces in his camp to prepare for the attack on the array, with Jinn suggesting that the player send any newly created units to join the effort.
