Shoran's camp

The settlement of Shoran, a fortified location, was situated on the moon of Alaris Prime. This base was under the command of the Wookiee named Shoran. The camp's construction took place during the conflict between the colonists from the Wookiee species on Alaris Prime and the Trade Federation, spanning from 39 BBY to 36 BBY. Within Shoran's camp, one could find a command center, a spaceport, multiple prefab shelters, alongside other structures used for resource acquisition. Notably, a Jedi holocron was discovered inside the camp's protected area, and it was subsequently recovered by the Jedi Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Furthermore, personnel from Shoran's camp participated in an offensive directed at a nearby Trade Federation listening array.

Description

The Jedi holocron found in Shoran's camp

Among the various Wookiee outposts established on the moon of Alaris Prime, Shoran's camp stood as one. The camp's operations were directed from a command center, which was encompassed by five farms in its elevated section. The upper part of the camp also housed a spaceport located in the northern area, alongside a power core and an ore processing center situated in the western part. The mid-level of the camp included an animal nursery, a pair of prefab shelters, and an additional power core. Close to the entrance in the lower portion of the camp, there was a food processing center, a carbon processing center, and yet another prefab shelter. The camp's western flank contained a considerable quantity of trees, featuring a pathway through them leading to a Jedi holocron.

The entire camp was defended by surrounding walls, featuring an entry point at the south and a subsequent one added on the north-eastern side. A river ran alongside the eastern wall. Another camp, led by the Wookiee Chewbacca, was positioned to the south, while a listening array under the control of the Trade Federation was located in the east. The camp had access to a variety of resources, including significant ore deposits, nerf creatures, and muja fruit bushes, which were harvested by the nine Wookiee workers stationed there.

History

Chewbacca's camp (pictured) was located near Shoran's camp.

The construction of the camp occurred between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, during the Wookiee colonization project on Alaris Prime, with Shoran playing a leading role. The Wookiees were in the midst of a war against the Trade Federation, which had initiated an illegal colonization effort, and the camp was established in what was considered a secure zone. At Chewbacca's camp, Qui-Gon Jinn, the Wookiee's Jedi advisor, instructed him on the advantages of having allies, and advised him to construct a spaceport. After Chewbacca's workforce completed the spaceport, the Wookiees gained access to HoloNet technology, enabling them to locate Shoran's camp.

Subsequently, Chewbacca constructed Corellian HoverFreighters at the spaceport and dispatched them to Shoran's camp to facilitate resource exchange, a practice that Shoran also adopted. Following this, Shoran discovered the Jedi holocron within his camp and informed Jinn, who instructed Chewbacca to build a Jedi temple to house the artifact. Jinn also dispatched his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Shoran's camp to retrieve the holocron. After Kenobi entered the settlement, Shoran noticed a contingent of Trade Federation battle droids dispatched by the droid LUH-989 to attack Chewbacca's camp.

Shoran alerted Chewbacca and Jinn about the impending attack, which Chewbacca and his Wookiee soldiers successfully repelled. Following the assault, Shoran requested one hundred nova crystals from Chewbacca to aid in the recovery efforts, a request that Jinn and Chewbacca fulfilled. In return, Shoran provided ore to Chewbacca's camp. Later on, scouts from Shoran's camp discovered the Trade Federation listening array, leading Chewbacca to suggest its destruction by the Wookiees. One heavy bowcaster trooper from Shoran's camp initiated an assault on the sentry posts at the array's entrance but was killed by the droids on guard. Chewbacca's forces, joined by Shoran's, then marched through the camp towards the listening array and successfully destroyed it.

Behind the scenes

Shoran's camp was initially referenced in Prima Games' strategy guide by Steven L. Kent—released on November 7, 2001—for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which was released on November 11 of the same year. The camp is featured in the sixth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, entitled "Allies and Jedi."

The camp is designed to instruct the player on the mechanics of teamwork, particularly through the utilization of spaceports. At the level's start, only the spaceport is visible to the player, who is instructed to research the HoloNet transceiver at their own spaceport to reveal the rest of the camp. For the majority of the level, the camp only possesses one gate at the south, but after the holocron is retrieved, a second gate appears in the north-east wall, enabling the player to attack the listening array. Unused audio files from the level depict Shoran assembling forces within his camp in preparation for the assault on the array, with Jinn suggesting that the player send any newly created units to join them.
