When Darth Vader made a visit to Shu-torun, the planet's inhabitants honored him with a performance of the waltz.
The Shu-Torun counter-bore waltz was a formal dance practiced by the human inhabitants residing on the planet of Shu-Torun. It featured pairs of dancers rotating in unison, arms extended, with the man alternating between facing away from and toward the woman. The female dancers adorned their fingertips with radiant spheres, leaving luminous trails as they revolved. The King of Shu-Torun encouraged his ore-dukes to participate in the ceremonial ball, held within the subterranean abyssal chambers of his palace, which incorporated the dance as a means of ensuring the nobility's allegiance to the royal family's authority.
During the year 0 ABY, the Sith Lord Darth Vader undertook a journey to Shu-Torun. He was acting as an emissary representing the interests of the Galactic Empire on behalf of Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Princess Trios, the king's daughter, initiated the dance upon her and Vader's entrance into the abyssal chamber. She proceeded to explain its significance to Vader after he questioned its necessity. The waltz faced disruption when Vader declined to dance with Bixene, the daughter of Duke Rubix. When the duke persisted, Vader utilized the Force to twirl him in the air. Subsequently, Vader was assailed by several of the king's soldiers, leading to the flight of the other attendees and the premature conclusion of the dance.
The inaugural appearance of the Shu-Torun counter-bore waltz was in Darth Vader Annual 1, a comic book authored by Kieron Gillen and featuring illustrations by Leinil Francis Yu, released in 2015.
