Skirmish in the Qulun camp

In the year 22 BBY, a minor battle took place at a camp of the nomadic Qulun clan during a diplomatic mission executed by the Jedi Order on the planet of Ansion. Masters Luminara Unduli and Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with their respective Padawans Barriss Offee and Anakin Skywalker, all members of the Jedi, were sent to Ansion with the goal of preventing its secession from the Republic. However, the Qulun chieftain Baiuntu drugged them, and they were imprisoned along with the clanless Ansionians Kyakhta and Bulgan. This was done to hinder their mission, as Soergg the Hutt had promised a reward for delaying the offworlders' return to Cuipernam, the capital city of the planet, until after the vote on secession had occurred. The prisoners were soon liberated by the Gwurran Tooqui, and the group quickly fled the camp.

Lead-up

During the Separatist Crisis of 22 BBY, a time when numerous star systems broke away from the Galactic Republic to establish the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Ansion became the target of a scheme orchestrated by Darth Tyranus, a Sith Lord, and Shu Mai, the Presidente of the Commerce Guild, with the aim of causing it to secede from the Republic.

Ansion was central to several key treaties, meaning its secession would trigger a domino effect, leading other worlds to follow suit. To address this, the Jedi Order dispatched a team of four members: Jedi Masters Luminara Unduli and Obi-Wan Kenobi, accompanied by their respective Padawans, Barriss Offee and Anakin Skywalker. Their diplomatic mission to Ansion was intended to secure an agreement with the Unity of Community, the governing body of Ansion. The Jedi aimed to facilitate a resolution between the Unity of Community and the Alwari, the nomadic Ansionian tribes inhabiting the Ansion plains, in order to resolve their long-standing conflict. To achieve this, the Jedi sought out the Borokii, the most influential overclan among the Alwari. They were joined in this endeavor by Kyakhta and [Bulgan](/article/bulgan], two Ansionian males without clan affiliation.

Shortly after Tooqui, a male Gwurran, became part of their group, the Jedi and their companions encountered a patrol from the Qulun, a distinct Alwari clan that primarily functioned as a trading faction. Baiuntu, the chief trader of the clan, extended an invitation to the Jedi to visit the Qulun camp. After Baiuntu showcased the Qulun's diverse artware and allowed them to sample aromatic essences that they sold, the Jedi and their two Ansionian companions were drugged. Paluruvu, an extract containing a potent sedative, served as the deceptive agent used by the chief trader to incapacitate both himself and his guests.

Upon awakening, the Jedi and their Ansionian companions were informed by Baiuntu that they were being detained due to a substantial reward offered by Bossban Soergg to anyone who could delay the group's return to Cuipernam until after the secession vote had taken place. He also revealed that he had destroyed their comlinks to prevent them from informing anyone in Cuipernam about their progress with the Alwari tribes. However, Tooqui had managed to avoid capture since he was not present with the group at the time they were drugged. Consequently, he was able to return to the camp shortly afterward and free his companions.

The battle

Tooqui, having escaped the Qulun camp, provoked a nearby herd of native lorqual by throwing rocks at them, causing them to stampede in the direction of the camp. Although some of the animals were halted by sentries, the remaining ones reached the camp. While the Qulun were preoccupied with the stampeding lorqual, Tooqui stealthily entered the transport where the Jedi and their companions were being held and liberated them using a knife belonging to Bulgan. After being freed, the Jedi confronted four nearby sentries, swiftly killing them before departing from the camp to resume their search for the Borokii overclan.

Aftermath

While attempting to coordinate a pursuit of the group, Baiuntu met his demise at the hands of a pack of shanhs, predatory animals indigenous to Ansion. Shortly after their escape, the Jedi and their companions located the ruling Borokii and became involved in a skirmish between the Borokii and the Januul, rival overclans and historical adversaries.

Behind the scenes
