The SP-4 ISC, alternatively referred to as the ISC droid, crime scene analysis droid, or crime scene analyzer droid, represented a modified version of the SP-4 analysis droid. The Jedi Order employed these droids to provide support to Jedi investigators and local law enforcement during investigations, ensuring that all parties remained informed about the evidence that was being collected. As the Galactic Republic neared its end and the dark side of the Force's power intensified, the influence of the Jedi diminished. This forced them to rely more and more on analysis droids to aid in solving crimes, many of which proved too challenging for the Jedi to resolve independently. ISC droids were designed to analyze data gathered from crime scenes to create a complete timeline of events. This process included interviewing both witnesses and suspects and comparing the information obtained from these conversations with the reconstructed crime scenes. They also reviewed local surveillance footage to either confirm or refute alibis.
ISC droids were outfitted with an optics and scanning visor, granting them the same magnification and scanning capabilities as a JN-66 analysis droid. A noticeable feature of these droids was the presence of full-plate metal coverings, which were typically absent on other analysis droids. This difference stemmed from the fact that ISC droids did not require the same level of irradiation cleaning as their counterparts. Additionally, ISC droids were equipped with a datapad to assist them in filtering and prioritizing the extensive amount of information they received for analysis.
Among the notable analysis droids was Russo-ISC, a crime scene analysis droid stationed at the Jedi Temple. Its role was to assist Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano in their investigation of the bombing of the Jedi Temple hangar. Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the SP-4 ISC unit was adopted by the Imperial Security Bureau and became known as the Imperial forensics droid. ZED-6-7 stands out as a prominent SP-4 ISC droid that served the Empire.
