The spetan channelfish was a type of fish species found in the oceans of the planet Ahch-To, characterized by its two black eyes. Its body was covered in gray, pink, and white scales, and it featured four tendril-like structures extending from each corner of its mouth. This species had a pair of fins located beneath its two gill slits, a large dorsal fin along with a smaller one, a ventral fin at the rear, and a tail fin. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker utilized the spetan channelfish as a source of food, and in the year 34 ABY, he was observed catching one of these fish by the scavenger Rey. He employed spearfishing methods he had mastered on the planet Lew'el, striking the fish on its left side, specifically between its eye and gills. Following the catch, he transported the fish back to his dwelling in the Jedi village, carrying it over his shoulder.
The initial appearance of a spetan channelfish occurred in the movie Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which premiered on December 15, 2017. While the prop was unnamed within the film itself, its identification was provided in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a companion reference book authored by Pablo Hidalgo that was released alongside the movie.
