Plot summary

For Rey, piloting an X-wing starfighter had been a lifelong aspiration, ever since her days of scavenging them on the planet of Jakku.

Now a member of the Resistance, Rey finally gets her chance to fly an X-wing and receive instruction from Poe Dameron. Dameron, who himself was once trained by Wedge Antilles, vowed to give Rey rigorous training. They arrived at the Moon of Kyzring for a training mission, a location abundant with the energy-rich mineral carnium. The area surrounding the moon was littered with asteroids, the result of years of mining activity by the Mining Guild.

Rey expressed some lack of enthusiasm for the assigned task, but Dameron had more in store. However, his X-wing then experienced a malfunction. With assistance from BB-8, Dameron managed to get his starship operational again. Dameron then pointed out the presence of buzz droids on the asteroids. These droids, originally designed to break down asteroids, also posed a threat to ships.

Their training exercise commenced, and they sped off. They navigated through asteroids and executed sharp turns. Dameron's X-wing continued to suffer from malfunctions, but BB-8 kept resolving the issues. Rey attempted to aid Dameron by identifying the problems, but Dameron soon realized he faced a more significant issue.

Buzz droids had attached themselves to his X-wing. He instructed Rey to withdraw, but Rey discovered she also had buzz droids on her ship. Rey then closed her s-foils, eliminating the droids. Despite this, the buzz droids continued to damage Dameron's ship. To assist Dameron, Rey focused The Force and fired at the asteroids surrounding Dameron. The asteroids collided with the buzz droids, destroying them.

Dameron expressed his gratitude to Rey for saving him, and they both concurred to conclude the training exercise. Rey commented that while his desire for everyone to be prepared was admirable, he couldn't handle everything alone. She shared that she had learned that lesson from Luke Skywalker.
