Star Wars: Invasion is a series of comic book stories penned by Tom Taylor and visually brought to life by Colin Wilson. Dark Horse Comics published this series, which unfolds during the New Jedi Order era and chronicles the events of the Yuuzhan Vong War. Similar to another ongoing Dark Horse series, Star Wars: Legacy, it connected with the New Jedi Order novels by Del Rey while still being accessible for new readers. In May and June of 2009, it debuted with two preview issues exclusively online at StarWars.com. The first printed issue was released on July 1, 2009. It was released on a monthly basis, presenting five-issue story arcs that alternated with Dark Times. The final issue was made available in November 2011, and no further issues are planned.

The Yuuzhan Vong War narrative is explored in this series, with a central focus on the Galfridian family. This family is the royal lineage from the peaceful planet of Artorias, which was one of the initial worlds to succumb to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. This invasion led to the evacuation, enslavement, or death of its entire population. Luke Skywalker guides a young man named Finn Galfridian onto the path of the Jedi, while his sister Kaye Galfridian and the rest of the family experience more challenging circumstances. Characters from The New Jedi Order series, including Luke Skywalker, Jaina Solo, and Jacen Solo, also appear in the series.
The events of Refugees and Rescues occur between the novels Vector Prime and Onslaught, while Revelations takes place between Onslaught and Ruin.

Colin Wilson, an artist with prior experience drawing Star Wars comics for Dark Horse, was collaborating with Australian writer Tom Taylor on a comic-book adaptation of Taylor's play, The Example. Wilson suggested that Taylor reach out to Randy Stradley, an editor at Dark Horse. Taylor was swiftly welcomed into the Dark Horse creative team and dedicated some time to an undisclosed Star Wars project that was eventually cancelled before he started working on Invasion. Dark Horse Comics initially announced the series on February 7, 2009, during the New York Comic Con. The success of the Star Wars: Vector crossover, which Dark Horse published in 2008, made it possible to add another monthly series to the already substantial number of Star Wars comic-book series.
