Video game

Jedi Academy PC

The Jedi Knight series of video games introduced the characters Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Master, and Jaden Korr, his apprentice. The term "video game" refers to any interactive game software, or a game played on a video-game console, or a computer game where the primary feedback to the player is a video display. ## Video Game Genres - First-person shooter (FPS) games are computer or video games where the game character's perspective is the same as the player's viewpoint. These games commonly include guns and other weapons used in combat. FPS games include Star Wars: Dark Forces and its sequels, along with Star Wars: Republic Commando. For further examples, see Category:First-person shooters. - Flight simulators are games that simulate piloting an air- or spacecraft against opponents or through obstacles. Examples of flight simulators are the X-wing and TIE Fighter series, the Rogue Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. - Real-time strategy (RTS) games are typically computer games where the player controls multiple characters from an overhead perspective. In these games, players usually command groups of characters instead of directly engaging in combat. Examples of RTS games include Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Empire at War. - Role-playing games (RPGs) are computer or video games where the player controls a character from a third-person perspective and makes decisions that affect the storyline. RPG examples include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. They share similarities with tabletop roleplaying games. - Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are online games where players control characters and interact with each other on a large scale. These games often feature diverse environments and many non-player characters (NPCs) to create a more immersive experience. Examples include Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. ## Star Wars Games Listed by Release Date ### 1980s #### 1982 - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, the first Star Wars video game, was developed by Parker Brothers and launched in 1982 for the Intellivision and Atari 2600 consoles.
