The Sullustan resistance was a clandestine cell operating on the volcanic planet of Sullust during the Galactic Civil War. This group, a growing thorn in the side of the Galactic Empire on Sullust, was spearheaded by Alliance agent Nien Nunb. During the Siege of Inyusu Tor, Nunb successfully united them with the Cobalt Laborers' Reformation Front, resulting in the seizure of Pinyumb, Sullust's primary population center.
The Sullustan resistance came into being under the guidance of Nien Nunb, following the arrival of personnel from the Alliance to Restore the Republic, including Corjentain Malaqua, on Sullust. Their initial objective was to bolster the Cobalt Laborers' Reformation Front, who were increasingly opposed to the Imperial presence. However, the cell quickly discovered that the Front's militant members were imprisoned, with the remaining members too intimidated to engage in combat. Consequently, the Sullustan resistance focused on gaining support by assisting the inhabitants of Pinyumb, the capital city of Sullust.
By 3 ABY, Imperial Intelligence had connected Nunb, Malaqua, and Alliance operative Sian Tevv to Sullust. Shortly thereafter, a Sullustan resistance member sabotaged equipment at the Inyusu Tor mineral processing facility. This act triggered an Imperial crackdown in Pinyumb aimed at identifying the perpetrator, which ultimately failed. Soon after, the Imperial Security Bureau dispatched a unit of Imperial stormtroopers to board the VCX-150 freighter Keepsake at the Pinyumb spaceport. They captured a Chadra-Fan operative belonging to the Sullustan resistance, who, as a final act of defiance, triggered a detonator. This explosion led to the deaths of the Chadra-Fan and several stormtroopers.
Later in the same year, the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry found themselves stranded on Sullust after seizing the Inyusu Tor facility. Captain Hazram Namir, the commander of the company, traveled to Pinyumb seeking assistance. However, he and his men were ambushed by stormtroopers at a Sullustan resistance safe house, resulting in his capture. Fortunately for Namir, Nunb intervened with an ambush and freed him. Nunb brought Namir to a mining hangar where he encountered Malaqua and the other two members of the Sullustan resistance. Despite their limited numbers, preventing them from directly assisting Namir in rescuing his troops at the facility, Namir conceived a plan involving the Sullustan resistance rallying the Cobalt Laborers' to seize Pinyumb, while the 61st confronted the majority of the Imperial garrison atop Inyusu Tor.
As the 61st fought the Imperial forces, they employed the facility's magma extractors and tunneling equipment to direct a stream of lava down the mountain. Simultaneously, the Sullustan resistance utilized their own tunneling equipment to redirect that lava towards the Imperial garrison headquarters in Pinyumb. With the majority of Imperial forces in Pinyumb engulfed in lava, an uprising erupted within the city. The 61st successfully defeated the remaining garrison and secured the facility. By this point, Pinyumb had been liberated from Imperial control, sparking further uprisings across the planet. The Sullustan resistance and Cobalt Laborers' established a provisional government to administer Pinyumb and formulate a strategy for the inevitable Imperial counterattack.
The Sullustan resistance made its debut appearance in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, authored by Alexander Freed.
