Corjentain Malaqua

Corjentain Malaqua was a human female who belonged to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and she was known to have connections with the Sullustan resistance, which was under the leadership of Nien Nunb. Before the siege of Inyusu Tor occurred, Malaqua, along with fellow Rebels Nunb and Sian Tevv, were identified as possible infiltrators. Imperial forces stationed in the city of Pinyumb were warned to be vigilant. It was suspected that the trio might smuggle in weapons and equipment to initiate a full-scale revolution.

Later, the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry found themselves stranded at Inyusu Tor on Sullust. Their Captain, Hazram Namir, then traveled to Pinyumb seeking assistance from the Sullustan resistance. He and his troops were ambushed, but Nunb intervened and rescued them, leading them to Corjentain, who was accompanied by two other Humans within the resistance. She detailed her resistance's purpose on Sullust and said she could only assist him in returning to the rest of the 61st. The stranded 61st later successfully defended the captured factory at Inyusu Tor. This victory allowed Nunb to mobilize the Sullustan resistance, along with the Cobalt Laborers' Reformation Front, to seize Pinyumb from Imperial control, triggering a planet-wide revolt on Sullust.

Biography

Operations at Pinyumb

Corjentain Malaqua, a human female native to Sullust, a volcanic industrial planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories, served the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. Around 3 ABY, she and a small group of other rebel operatives, under the leadership of the Sullustan revolutionary Nien Nunb, journeyed to Sullust's [capital](/article/capital], the cavern city of Pinyumb, to forge an alliance between the Alliance and the local protest group known as the Cobalt Laborers' Reformation Front, which was becoming increasingly opposed to the Empire. However, the cell, known as the Sullustan resistance, discovered that the group's most active members had been imprisoned, while others were too afraid to take up arms.

Consequently, Malaqua and her cell decided to assist Pinyumb in any way they could, hoping to inspire more supporters. They operated from a mining hangar and smuggled in essential supplies—including food, tools, medical equipment, and anti-Imperial propaganda—for struggling citizens, utilizing the VCX-150 freighter Keepsake to transport these goods. The Empire received information suggesting that the Cobalt Front might be developing connections with the Alliance. In their efforts to identify any rebels operating on Sullust, intelligence at the Imperial garrison gathered data on rebels with known ties to Sullust, including Malaqua, Nunb, and Sian Tevv. By this time, approximately eighty percent of the Cobalt Front's membership was in Imperial custody.

Escalating conflict

The Sullustan resistance soon launched a sabotage attack on the Inyusu Tor mineral processing facility located near Punyumb. During the attack, a member of the cell placed a rag soaked in a chemical mixture into a pipe, which sabotaged the magma extractors and, consequently, the magnetic separators. This attack drew the attention of the garrison, and an Imperial lieutenant was briefing stormtroopers of the local Imperial Ninety-Seventh Stormtrooper Legion on Sullust-affiliated rebels like Malaqua. Pinyumb was placed under lockdown as a result of the attack, with stormtroopers conducting raids. The Empire soon identified and boarded the Keepsake, discovering a Chadra-Fan member of the Sullustan resistance who detonated a detonator to avoid capture.

Meanwhile, the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry was conducting a campaign along the Rimma Trade Route to divert Imperial resources through a series of attacks. The Empire attempted to compensate for production losses on Sullust, and the Sullustan resistance spied on redeployments arriving at Pinyumb. The 61st then arrived on Sullust, capturing the Inyusu Tor facility but becoming stranded when their troop carrier was shot down. Pinyumb was placed under lockdown, and citizens were further oppressed. Nunb embarked on a relief mission for those affected, while Malaqua and the other two remaining Sullustan resistance members waited at the hangar.

Joining forces

Nunb soon returned to the cell with Hazram Namir, the captain of the 61st. Namir had come to Pinyumb seeking the Sullustan resistance's assistance, as his company was preparing to defend the Inyusu Tor facility from an Imperial counterattack. After speaking with Nunb, Malaqua introduced herself to the captain. She explained the Sullustan resistance's efforts on Sullust and the difficulties in getting the Cobalt Front to be more active. After admitting that the 61st's arrival was causing problems for the people of Pinyumb, the captain promised to leave as soon as his company could escape the planet. However, the rebel operative feared that the Empire's new crackdowns were irreversible.

In return, Namir told Malaqua and her cell about the 61st's campaign, explaining that he had originally intended to seek help from the Sullustan resistance before learning how small it was. Malaqua offered to help him reunite with his company at the processing facility at daybreak. Grateful, the captain discussed what the cell would do when the Empire attacked the facility again. The cell's members intended to make a final stand, so Namir asked to see what they had to offer and provide them with a fresh perspective to enhance their war effort. The group examined maps of Pinyumb, with Malaqua and Namir debating the best locations to deploy snipers.

While Malaqua prepared to guide Namir back to Inyusu Tor, the captain devised a plan for his company to hold out at the processing facility and assist the Sullustan resistance by drawing Imperial forces away from Pinyumb and digging out magma flow tunnels to use against the enemy. He gathered the four rebel fighters and explained his plan to them before Malaqua led him along a path back towards the Inyusu Tor facility, giving him directions through crevices, following migrating ash angel birds. Namir returned to the 61st and had them strengthen their defenses before Imperial forces began their attack on the facility, supported by the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Herald.
