Story Synopsis

Discovering New Narratives

Emil Graf, while journeying through Wild Space aboard the Star Herald, had just concluded the telling of yet another tale to his droid companions, CR-8R, known as "Crater," and BB-00, or "Boo." Emil sensed sarcasm in Crater's "wonderful" assessment of the story. Crater countered, stating that more pressing matters demanded their attention in Wild Space. Graf contended that stories hold significance, capable of sparking extraordinary deeds and inspiring individuals toward heroism. He cited Mattis Banz, raised on an orphan farm located on the planet Durkteel, as an example of someone who would achieve greatness following the First Order's rise, having been inspired by such stories.

Halting a Tormentor

Mattis Banz, riding a speeder alongside his friend Jinby, listened as Jinby recounted how Princess Leia Organa, despite Darth Vader's imposing strength, stood firm to safeguard her comrades. Banz remained skeptical of the tales, yet appreciated them as they made the work feel less tedious. Jinby emphasized the importance of stories as tools for understanding the world and learning how to be virtuous. Banz believed he already possessed goodness, but Jinby argued that its true measure lies in facing trials. Their conversation was interrupted by the cries of Sol Charless, whom Mattis Banz presumed was operating the splitter against instructions.

Banz and Jinby rushed to discover Fikk holding Sol over the splitter with his leg. Sol pleaded with Jinby for assistance, and Jinby labeled Fikk a "bully." Despite Marn's warning against tormenting Sol, Fikk persisted. Jinby's attempts to intervene were met with Fikk's defiance. Jinby then sought Mattis's help, but Fikk threatened to throw Mattis into the splitter if he advanced. Mattis Banz recalled the heroes of the Rebel Alliance, including Princess Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Admiral Gial Ackbar, along with all the other heroes from Jinby's stories. To the surprise of Fikk and Jinby, Mattis dashed into the fields. Fikk, however, was about to resume his actions.

In the fields, Mattis Banz utilized the available tools to construct a hemmel reaper. With a shout, he charged out of the fields, startling Fikk and causing him to release Sol. Jinby managed to catch Sol before he fell, and Banz pursued Fikk across the fields. Banz demanded that Fikk cease his bullying, to which Fikk retorted that Banz would pay for his actions.

Returning to the Star Herald, Emil Graf concluded the story by explaining to Crater that Mattis might not have found the courage for his heroic deeds without the inspiration of these stories, emphasizing that one never knows who might be listening.
