Opening Narrative

Vima and the Former Jedi Knight

Vima Sunrider is on Rhen Var, searching an abandoned city for Ulic Qel-Droma, barely avoiding a collapsing bridge. She finds Ulic amidst the remains of a shattered window, and he initially mistakes her for Nomi, her mother. Vima informs Ulic of her desire for him to teach her the ways of the Jedi. Ulic, still haunted by the guilt of his actions during the Great Sith War, declines, stating that he is no longer a Jedi and cannot sense the Force.

He dismisses Vima, who is upset, because she reminds him of her mother. Vima attempts to use her transmitter to call for help while caught in a snowstorm. However, Ulic has compassion for her and provides shelter for her beneath a destroyed tunnel.

Sylvar's Inner Turmoil

Sylvar, the Cathar Jedi, and Tott Doneeta journey back to Cathar, Sylvar's home planet. Sylvar had hoped to discover serenity, but instead, she is met by a joyous crowd of locals who see her as a symbol of heroism. Sylvar is instead reminded of her past losses.

Later that evening, Sylvar shares her concerns with Kharr, a holy man, about the loss of her mate Crado and her animosity for Ulic. Kharr informs Sylvar that she is mistaken and that her true adversary is the anger that resides within her. Sylvar makes the decision to embark on a blood hunt in an effort to rid herself of the rage that consumes her.

Sylvar and Tott are walking by a massive tree the next day, and the Cathar have etched hieroglyphs into the bark that tell the story of her life. Sylvar extends an invitation to Tott to join her on the blood hunt, which she describes as a ritual purification for her people.

The Hesitant Instructor

Vima informs Ulic, back on Rhen Var, that her mother Nomi is unaware of her presence and does not understand how strongly she desires to become a Jedi. Ulic questions Vima about her understanding of the sacrifices required to be a Jedi, recounting his experiences of losing his mother, murdering his own brother, betraying Nomi, and losing his connection to the Force. Ulic, tormented by the damage he has caused to the galaxy, questions Vima's desire for him to be her teacher. Vima responds by saying it is because he is Ulic.

While repairing his ship, Hoggon comes to the realization that Ulic is a wanted criminal and that he was the one who transported both Ulic and Vima on his vessel. Hoggon makes the decision to alert the Jedi, with the hope that they will dispatch a battalion of Jedi Knights to engage Ulic in combat. He makes up his mind to travel to Exis Station and inform Nomi of the situation.

Overcome with Fury

Sylvar guides Tott through the lands that have been devastated by the Kiltik on Cathar. Tott is horrified by the skeletons of animals killed by the Cathar during their hunts, while Sylvar is energized by the prospect of the hunt. Sylvar argues that killing the Kiltiks is an act of mercy for her planet and that it will put out the fires within her.

Sylvar leads Tott to a cave where the Kiltik sleep during the day, explaining that they hunt at night. Sylvar uses her lightsaber to kill the Kiltik guard inside the cave before killing the Queen and her offspring. Tott is horrified and disgusted by the loss of life, while Sylvar revels in the hunt. He criticizes her for giving in to her anger and warns her that the path of anger leads to the dark side. She instructs Sylvar to resolve her issues and to remember Ulic.

A Phantom from the Past

Nomi receives a holo transmission from her daughter at Exis Station, informing her that she is safe and that she will be trained by Ulic. An alien attendant informs a shocked Nomi that Hoggon is requesting a meeting with her. Nomi instructs the attendant to turn him away as she bemoans her daughter's "recklessness."
