Tartaglia

Tartaglia, a planet, could be found within the Tartaglia system. This system was part of the Hollan sector, which itself resided in the New Territories region of the Mid Rim. The world was connected via Hyperlanes to the Asamin system located in the Strabin sector, as well as the Nicandra system within the sector that shared the same name. It also linked to the Vectinia system, which belonged to the Hewett sector.

By the time that the Galactic Civil War was occurring, Tartaglia was rumored to be the location of the Nova Vaults of Kakitai bel Toyouin. These vaults were said to be buried beneath the surface of the planet and contained treasures beyond imagination. Despite numerous attempts to locate them, the vaults remained hidden, leading to the deaths of millions of treasure hunters on Tartaglia. As time passed, the planet's surface deteriorated, resulting in the formation of numerous large holes. At some point between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, the military of the Imperial Remnant prevailed over the forces belonging to the New Republic on Tartaglia, a world that was, at that point, located within the New Republic's borders.

Behind the scenes

The 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, introduced the planet Tartaglia. They expanded upon the Fusion Clouds of Tartaglia, which were previously mentioned in Ben Burtt's 2001 book, Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide. Wallace also mentioned that he created the planet's Nova Vaults of Kakitai bel Toyouin, as well as the description of the world featuring deep holes, as a tribute to the Money Pit of Oak Island, a mystery that had intrigued him during his childhood. In The Essential Atlas, Tartaglia was positioned within grid square M-7.
