The tallest spire constructed on top of the Imperial Palace – previously the Jedi Temple – on Coruscant, was the Palace spire. During the time of the Galactic Republic, it was alternatively known as Temple Spire or the Tranquility Spire. Surrounding it were four smaller spires, collectively known as the Council Towers.
For a millennium, Tranquility Spire, a towering structure distinguished by three decorative fins at its peak, stood prominently at the center of the Jedi Temple. Serving as one of the most sacred locations for the Jedi Order, its interior featured galleries showcasing the Order's history. Repulsors held mosaics, tapestries, and sculptures suspended in the tower's center, viewable from transparisteel turbolifts that lined the spire's exterior walls. Surrounding it were four smaller spires, collectively known as the Council Towers. The original mountain peak of the sacred spire protruded from the ziggurat at the tower's base, encircled by hallways overlooking the edifice's barren slopes. Pathways extended from the outer halls onto and through the mountain, leading to original cave chapels. This area featured meditation balconies and a balcony displaying holo-depictions illustrating Jedi history, used for the education of younglings. The Spire's summit housed halls and a chamber of great importance to the Order, including private rooms for meditation and contemplation, lecture halls, and a galaxy holomap room. The military command hub for the Jedi was also situated within this part of the Temple.
The Veranda, located within the finned section of the Spire, contained the Hall of Knighthood and a private hangar for dignitaries and members of the Jedi High Council. The Spire's Pinnacle Room held the Order's most vital documents and artifacts; it also served as a meeting space for the High Council, in addition to the Jedi Council Chamber.
Following the fall of the Jedi Order and the subsequent rise of the Galactic Empire, Darth Sidious established his residence in the Jedi Temple, transforming the Temple Spire into the Empire's governmental center. He converted the pinnacle chamber into his throne room, renaming it the Palace spire. The rest of the spire was purged of all Jedi references, replaced with statues and artwork celebrating the Empire's glory.
