Tuk'ata
Tuk'ata were a species of creatures categorized as a Sith warbeast. These creatures, also known as Sith hounds, inhabited the planet Moraband.
Biology and appearance
Tuk'ata were large, four-legged beings with clawed paws at the ends of their limbs. They possessed a lengthy, whip-like tail, a mouth filled with pointed fangs, and a series of spines running along their back and tail. There was at least one tuk'ata that could jump more than twice its own height.
History
At one point, Latts Razzi's crime syndicate came into possession of two fully mummified specimens. Later, Dryden Vos from the Crimson Dawn syndicate seized these mummies, along with numerous other items.
Doctor Aphra, accompanied by a crew of Shistavanen, entered an ancient temple sometime after the Battle of Yavin in search of the legendary Sword of Khashyun. She was taken by surprise when she encountered a tuk'ata guarding the tombs, as she had believed the species to be merely a myth. As the archaeologist and the remaining crew were fleeing down the hallways, they lost the last Shistavanen to the hound. The rogue then tricked the beast, guiding it toward one of the traps within the structure while feigning injury and immobility. The tuk'ata fell for the ruse, leaping high toward Aphra and inadvertently activating a laser field that stopped the hound in its tracks, allowing Aphra and her droid companion, BT-1, to escape the Sith tomb.
Behind the scenes
Tuk'ata were initially mentioned in Dooku: Jedi Lost, an audiobook authored by Cavan Scott and released in 2019. Within the Star Wars Legends storyline, the tuk'ata made their debut appearance in Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith 3, a comic book penned by Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson and published on December 13, 1994.
