An EV-series supervisor droid functioned as a sous-chef droid within the palace of Bib Fortuna. Fortuna had acquired the palace from its previous occupant, Jabba the Hutt, after the crime lord's death. This sous-chef droid labored in the palace's kitchen alongside a COO-series cook droid, when the two detected a sound nearby. The EV-series initially believed the disturbance was caused by a rat, but the noise actually originated from the former bounty hunter Boba Fett and Master Assassin Fennec Shand, who had secretly entered the palace to reclaim Fett's starship. The cook droid instructed the EV-series to investigate, and the sous-chef droid discovered an open grate through which Fett and Shand had escaped. Upon realizing it wasn't a rat, the sous-chef commanded its colleague to summon security, but Fett used his gaffi stick to incapacitate the EV-series droid.
The sous-chef droid was seen in flashback sequences during the fourth episode of The Book of Boba Fett, a streaming series on Disney+. Sam Witwer voiced the droid, though he was not credited in the show. Witwer mentioned at Celebration 2022 that he considered the character to be EV-9D9, and he based his vocal performance on Richard Marquand's depiction of that character in the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. However, it is unlikely that Witwer's sous-chef is the same droid, since EV-9D9 had previously been established as a bartender at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the fifth episode of The Mandalorian, which takes place at the same time as the flashbacks in Boba Fett.
