The Uviuy Exen system was situated within the Shwuy sector of the Colonies' region. This system was home to a planet bearing the same designation. Its location at the intersection of the Hydian Way and the Shwuy Exchange hyperlanes meant that numerous starships traversing these routes would regularly pass through it.
During the time of the Clone Wars, the Uviuy Exen system maintained its allegiance to the Galactic Republic and later became integrated into the Galactic Empire. In later years, Uviuy Exen became a battleground for multiple conflicts involving the New Republic and the Imperial forces.
Within the Colonies region, specifically in the Northern Dependencies area, resided the Uviuy Exen system, found in the Shwuy sector. This star system contained the terrestrial planet known as Uviuy Exen. It was positioned at the crossing point of two hyperlanes: the Hydian Way super-hyperroute, which linked it with the Eeropha and Wakeelmui systems, and a smaller hyperspace route called the Shwuy Exchange which provided a connection to the Dankayo system.
Between 25,000 BBY and 22,000 BBY, a collection of early hyperlanes created connections between the Uviuy Exen system and the systems of Chagri, Nouane, Yabol Opa, Brentaal, Coruscant, and Palanhi. However, by 17,000 BBY, these routes had merged into a single path stretching from Chagri to Brentaal, passing through Uviuy Exen. This hyperlane would eventually become known as the Corsin Run, which by 3694 BBY had been incorporated into the modern Hydian Way.

Although the space surrounding the Uviuy Exen system was not thoroughly explored until sometime between 20,000 BBY and 15,000 BBY, the system had already become a part of the Galactic Republic by 22,000 BBY. By 17,000 BBY, Uviuy Exen had joined forces with the planet Alsakan in its struggle against Coruscant for the position of the Republic's capital. Nevertheless, it remained loyal to the Republic during the Clone Wars period, spanning from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.
Early in the Clone Wars, the Uviuy Exen system was situated at the intersection of territories that the Republic Military's First, Third, and Seventh Armies were charged with defending against the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Shortly after the Commerce Guild took control of the planet Ukio, the Uviuy Exen system was shown on a galactic map displayed on a viewscreen at a facility operated by Passel Argente, the Magistrate of the Corporate Alliance.
By 17 BBY, the Galactic Empire had gained control of the Uviuy Exen system. In 6 ABY, the New Republic's military achieved a victory over the forces of Imperial Warlord Zsinj at Uviuy Exen as part of an effort to drive Imperial forces up the Hydian Way; the star system then came under New Republic control within that year. However, four years later, another battle occurred at Uviuy Exen as Imperial forces advanced from the Chagri system towards the Brentaal system. Around 25 ABY, the population of the Uviuy Exen system was estimated to be between 500 million and 1 billion.
The Uviuy Exen system's strategic position on both the Hydian Way and the Shwuy Exchange resulted in numerous starships passing through it while traveling along these hyperlanes. In 27 BBY, the colonization and exploration vessel Outbound Flight made a visit to the system during a shakedown cruise through Galactic Republic territory. During the Outer Rim Sieges phase of the Clone Wars, Republic fleets pursued Confederate forces Rimward, including along the Hydian Way through the Uviuy Exen system.

In 0 BBY, several vessels involved in the ongoing Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance transited the Uviuy Exen system. First, the Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator chased the Tantive IV, the corvette belonging to Rebel-aligned Senator Leia Organa, between the Outer Rim worlds of Toprawa and Tatooine. Subsequently, the Devastator, carrying the captured senator, traveled back through Uviuy Exen to meet up with the Imperial Death Star battle station in the Outer Rim's Horuz system.
Shortly afterwards, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, the officer commanding the Death Star, decided to demonstrate its power on the Core Worlds planet of Alderaan. The Imperial Navy cleared the hyperlanes so the mobile station could move unimpeded towards its target, passing through the Uviuy Exen system on its journey. Finally, the light freighter Millennium Falcon, whose crew possessed the schematics for the Death Star and had rescued Organa from the station in the Alderaan system, sped through Uviuy Exen on its way to the Rebel base located on the Outer Rim moon of Yavin 4.
In 6 ABY, the New Republic's Rogue Squadron traversed the Uviuy Exen system while relocating from its base on the Colonies planet Talasea to Noquivzor, also in the Colonies. New Republic forces passed through Uviuy Exen in 17 ABY before engaging the Imperial Remnant at Champala in the Chagri system, and again in 27 ABY prior to a confrontation with the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong invaders at the Colonies world of Borleias.
The Uviuy Exen system was initially referenced in "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article penned by Glen Allison as a supplement for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, featured in Voyages SF 13. Given that the article was published outside of the Lucas Licensing channels, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity was never officially established.
The 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, designated the Uviuy Exen system's location as grid square L-9. Subsequently, The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic written by Pablo Hidalgo and released on StarWars.com over the course of the 2009–2010 second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, provided the system's first appearance.
