Video game
The Jedi Knight series of video games introduced us to Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Master, and his Padawan, Jaden Korr. The term "video game" refers to any interactive game software played on a video game console or computer, where the primary feedback mechanism is a video display. ## Video Game Genres - First-person shooter (FPS) games are computer or video games where the player experiences the game from the perspective of a character within the game. These games typically involve guns and other weapons used in combat. Star Wars: Dark Forces and its sequels are FPS games, as is Star Wars: Republic Commando. For more examples, see Category:First-person shooters. - Flight simulators place the player in the role of a pilot, controlling an aircraft or spacecraft against enemies or obstacles. Examples include the X-wing and TIE Fighter series, the Rogue Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed. - Real-time strategy (RTS) games are generally computer games where players oversee multiple characters from an overhead viewpoint. Players in RTS games usually command several groups of characters without directly engaging in combat themselves. Examples of RTS games include Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Force Commander, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Empire at War. - Role-playing games (RPGs) are computer or video games where the player views the character from a third-person perspective and makes decisions that ultimately influence the game's plot. Examples of RPGs include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. They share similarities with tabletop roleplaying games. - Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) are online games where players create characters and interact with each other on a large scale. These games often feature diverse environments and numerous non-player characters (NPCs) to create a more immersive experience. Examples include Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. ## Star Wars Games Listed by Release Date ### 1980s #### 1982 - The first Star Wars video game was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
