Camp Epsilon was one of five refugee camps established within the Quarantine Zone on Dathomir following an outbreak of the Blackwing virus during the Galactic Civil War.
In 1 ABY, an accident happened in an Imperial Research and Prison Facility on the planet Dathomir where the Galactic Empire was secretly conducting dangerous scientific research to engineer the dreadful Blackwing virus into a bioweapon. The virus escaped containment and turned most of the people in the area in flesh-craving undead creatures. The Empire promptly established a Quarantine Zone to contain the infection. The few people who survived the virus outbreak, mostly Imperial staff and prisoners, were trapped in the Quarantine Zone. They established five camps inside the area, Camp Alpha, Camp Beta, Camp Gamma, Camp Delta and Camp Epsilon, in order to try to live in safety while waiting for an evacuation, albeit all rescue teams were attacked upon landing in the area and their members were killed before they could find the survivors. The camps were named by the TIE pilot Jeb Maris who had managed to deliver radios from Camp Alpha to the other camp and had established communication between them.
Camp Epsilon was made of a few tents surrounded by a protective wall consisting of concrete slabs, large disabled devices and other waste materials. It was inhabited by a ragtag group of survivors made of Imperial troopers, ex-prisoners and soldiers of the Rebel Alliance, and the defense was led by the former prisoner Zsu Val. Indeed, the camp came under regular attack from the zombies and the refugees had to struggle for their survival. Other survivors included the technician Sogan Varga, the mechanic Nils Cridmeen, Inquisitor Klex Fulgor, and a small contingent of immune stormtroopers including GT-643, KD-121 and their leader HX-138. Contrary to the four other refugee camps that were located in random places of the Quarantine Zone, Camp Epsilon was located in the courtyard of the Imperial Research and Prison Facility. In fact, the camp was established around the last starship in the area, a Lambda-class shuttle, that was not destroyed during the outbreak. However, the ship was damaged and was not able to fly. HX-138 expected to find a way to fix the shuttle in order to allow the survivors to escape the Quarantine Zone.
A group of spacers visited Camp Epsilon during their journey in the Quarantine Zone. They assisted the survivors in their fight against the undeads and helped the stormtroopers in rescuing some survivors and finding parts to fix the shuttle. The spacers later left Camp Epsilon to enter the Imperial Research and Prison Facility in order to obtain an original sample of the Blackwing virus. The spacers survived to their exploration of the research facility and finally came back to Camp Epsilon with a group of survivors found in the laboratories. In the meantime, Nils Cridmeen was able to repair the Lambda-class shuttle. The refugees of Camp Epsilon, the survivors from the research facility and the spacers eventually escaped the Quarantine Zone altogether with the shuttle.
Camp Epsilon was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. Camp Epsilon was added to the game with the "Game Update 14," a.k.a. the "Death Troopers" update, released on October 12, 2009.
