Darsana

Biography

Darsana came from Glee Anselm.

Darsana came from Glee Anselm.

Darsana was a member of the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic from Glee Anselm, the Mid Rim homeworld of the Nautolan and Anselmi species. During the Separatist Crisis in 22 BBY, Darsana was present in the main chamber of the Galactic Senate Building on the Republic capital, Coruscant, during a session debating the creation of a Republic army to face the Separatists through the Military Creation Act. Darsana was strong supporter of the bill to create an army, and their repulsorpod was one of several that had disengaged from the chamber's walls and surrounded the central podium where Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine sat by the time Senator Padmé Amidala arrived in the chamber following an attempt on her life.

Amidala then piloted her own repulsorpod around those of Darsana and other supporters of the bill, such as Senators Orn Free Taa and Ask Aak, in order to voice support in Palpatine's statements that the Republic's aims were peace rather than war. After a stunned silence, much of the Senate cheered and applauded Amidala, including some of the bills supporters, but some began to boo when the she then continued to speak out against the bill. Palpatine eventually delayed voting on the bill and ended the session for the day. Not long after the session, the Senate granted Palpatine Emergency Powers that allowed him to order creation of the Grand Army of the Republic to fight against the Separatists in the Clone Wars.

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Darsana appeared in Attack of the Clones - The Film Novel, Catherine Kalengula's 2016 French novelisation of the film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, which released on May 16, 2002. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Darsana first appeared in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #49, an article written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens, and published in March, 2002.

Animation director Rob Coleman delivered an altered version of Darsana's dialogue during production of Attack of the Clones.

Darsana also appeared in the Legends film novelization of Attack of the Clones, which was written by R. A. Salvatore and released on April 23, 2002. In the novelisation, Darsana appears in the scene in which Amidala speaks out against the Military Creation Act and delivers a line of dialogue claiming that the Republic is no longer safe under the protection of the Jedi Order. This scene was filmed for Attack of the Clones, but did not make it into the final cut.

Footage from the making of the film shows animation director Rob Coleman delivering a slightly altered version of this line with an accent for director George Lucas; however, neither Darsana or the line appear anywhere in the film, nor in the version of the scene released as one of the film's deleted scenes. Concept art of Darsana was created for the film but never published; however, it was later used as the basis for the appearance of the Anselmi when they were first depicted in the 2019 choose-your-own adventure book Choose Your Destiny: An Obi-Wan & Anakin Adventure, which was written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Elsa Charretier.
