Mission to Codia's second moon

Between 44 BBY and 32 BBY, the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, were sent on a mission to investigate a distress call from a mining outpost on the second moon of the planet Codia I. The outpost reported being submerged in total darkness and upon their arrival the Jedi donned modified macrobinoculars in order to see. Entering the outpost, they discovered a fatally wounded individual who warned them of a maddened threat before dying.

Continuing further, the pair encountered a shadow that knocked Kenobi to the ground. Hearing a nearby call for help, Jinn followed it while sending Kenobi to chase the shadow, which was in fact the frenzied Defel miner Rosack Denahst. Denahst attacked Kenobi, who eventually caused the Defel to flee, after which Jinn returned with a thief that he had discovered. The thief had revealed that he was part of a group who had attempted to steal a shipment of diamonds from the outpost, destroying the facility's power core with a non-incendiary photonic charge. The Jedi realised that the photonic burst from the charge had likely interacted with the accelerite in the outpost's core and created unusual radioactivity which would have suppressed the entire light spectrum within the outpost, explaining the darkness.

Bringing the thief with them as they continued further into the outpost, the Jedi discovered the bodies of thieves that Denahst had slaughtered. As they examined the bodies, they were fired upon by the supervisor of the outpost, a Gran who had remained in the outpost to investigate when the power went out. Jinn disarmed the Gran, after which the supervisor exchanged information with the Jedi and revealed Denahst's identity too them. The Jedi then deduced that the radiation had likely driven the light-sensitive Defel insane, after which Denahst attacked the group and killed the thief before grabbing the supervisor. Kenobi stunned the Defel with the Force and saved the Gran, but was unable to reason with the frenzied miner. Jinn then incapacitated Denahst with a mining cart, allowing Kenobi and the supervisor to move to the power core and repair it, although Kenobi was blinded in the process. With the power restored, the radiation was nullified and so Denahst regained his sanity. The Defel and the supervisor then visited Kenobi as he recovered in the outpost's medical center.

The mission was created for the second issue of the Star Wars: Obi-Wan comic series which was written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Luke Ross, with cover art of Denahst by Phil Noto. Prior to the comic's publication on June 29, 2022, it was first mentioned in the solicitations blog post for the comic made on StarWars.com on March 15 of that year.
