A mother who was female gave birth to Ruen, a human male who worked expertly as a technician. Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra became acquainted with Ruen, asserting that the technician would willingly offer his mother for enslavement in order to finance a particular endeavor. The words of Aphra were documented by the assassin droid known as 0-0-0, who then played the recording for Ruen when he and the "blastomech" prototype BT-1 traveled to Ruen's workshop to get repairs done. This took place on the Wreck Belt of the planet Lotho Minor sometime between 0 ABY and 1 ABY. After listening to Aphra's statement, Ruen concluded that the two droids were owned by her.
The character of Ruen's mother appeared in "The Misadventures of Triple-Zero and Beetee," a comic story penned by Kieron Gillen. Marvel Comics released it in the twentieth issue of the 2015 Star Wars: Darth Vader comic book series on May 11, 2016.
