The vanguard element of the Fifth Fleet constituted a fleet group belonging to the Republic Navy's Open Circle Fleet. During the Clone Wars, which pitted the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, this fleet group was led by High Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker in a command capacity. Following its involvement in the Battle of Yerbana, the fleet group divided; a portion was sent to assist the Mandalore resistance during the Siege of Mandalore, while the remainder took part in the Battle of Coruscant, ultimately shifting the battle's outcome to the Republic's advantage. This fleet group was composed of a minimum of five Venator-class Star Destroyers.
