Aeroxite

Aeroxite was a steel alloy of a chrome-colored hue. This metal could be created via the casting of ore that was mined from Velser's Ring, an asteroid belt situated within the Outer Rim Territories' Bespin system. Circa 35 ABY, Lando Calrissian—a former gambler and smuggler turned Resistance member, as well as the Baron Administrator of Cloud City, a settlement on the planet of Bespin, and a Rebel Alliance officer—owned a greel ebonwood cane that featured both a head and tip made of aeroxite. The cane's head had been fashioned into the shape of Cloud City and bore the Aurebesh inscription "Baron Landonis Calrissian" on its surface; its tip could have been used to poke anyone who dared to suggest that Calrissian was becoming old or weak.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of aeroxite was in The Galaxy Needs You, a picture book authored by Caitlin Kennedy, illustrated by Eda Kaban, and released to the public on December 17, 2019, where it was used as a component of Lando Calrissian's cane. The illustration was derived from Calrissian's appearance in the sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which premiered on December 20, 2019.

Several pieces of concept art depicting Lando Calrissian's cane were produced by chief costume concept artist Glyn Dillon and prop concept designer Matthew Savage. In Dillon's drawings, the cane's tip was colored white and its head was colored gold, while Savage's illustration showed the cane's head incorporating "solidified tibanna ore." Before the cane appeared in in-universe narratives, it was initially shown on September 26, 2019, within a StarWars.com article that previewed upcoming Star Wars merchandise, including items related to the film. The reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo identified the metal by its name.
