Anzati

Anzati were a species of humanoid beings with extended lifespans, originating from the planet Anzat located within the Mid Rim Territories. Their reputation was one of fear and disgust, stemming from their need to consume the life essence of other sentient beings for survival.

The Anzati's Role in the Galaxy

An Anzati corners Jedi Aayla Secura

Following her departure from the Jedi Order, Aurra Sing underwent training by Anzati agents, who molded her into a deadly assassin. On one occasion, an Anzati clad in robes reminiscent of those worn by Jedi or Sith confronted the Jedi Aayla Secura; however, she managed to survive the encounter.

During the Imperial Era, an Anzati known as Reyna Oskure maintained ties to the Acolytes of the Beyond. Oskure was highly valued by the group's members, consistently responding swiftly to their summons. Furthermore, Governor Ubrik Adelhard was acquainted with Oskure and invited her to join him shortly after the commencement of the Iron Blockade, a move that aligned with the Acolytes' schemes.

Behind-the-Scenes Information

The initial mention of the Anzati within current Star Wars canon occurred in the Jedi Temple Archives collection of Topps trading cards titled 2015 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives: Jedi vs. Sith, which was released in 2015. Their formal identification as a distinct species, accompanied by a visual representation, took place in the third issue of De Agostini's Star Wars Helmet Collection magazine series, which was published in 2016. This issue featured a comic panel depicting an Anzati attacking Aayla Secura, originally appearing in the Legends narrative Star Wars (1998) 34, to illustrate the canon Anzati. Within the comic, the Anzati in question was identified as Volfe Karkko, a former Jedi, though this detail remains unconfirmed within canon. The Anzati later made their inaugural full canonical appearance in the comic Battle of Jakku — Insurgency Rising 1.

Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, Dannik Jerriko was established as an Anzat belonging to the Anzati in "Soup's On: The Pipe Smoker's Tale," a short story authored by Jennifer Roberson and featured in Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, published by Bantam Spectra in July 1995. In contrast to Star Wars Legends, the canonical version of Jerriko was identified as a mutant human in the 2016 reference publication Star Wars: Complete Locations.
