Ashla (Jedi)

Ashla was a Togruta Jedi youngling of the female persuasion. She underwent training at the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant as the Jedi Order's power waned during its final years.

Biography

During the twilight years of the Jedi Order, Ashla was a Jedi youngling. She, alongside many of her fellow younglings, was taught by Jedi Master Yoda. During one lightsaber training session, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi paid a visit to Ashla's class to converse with Yoda concerning the planet Kamino. Kenobi was investigating Kamino, which had been removed from the Jedi Archives. One of Ashla's classmates correctly deduced that someone had erased the files, thus explaining Kamino's absence. Kenobi later located Kamino and discovered a clone army created for the Galactic Republic, which the Jedi would eventually lead throughout the resulting Clone Wars. Ashla's name was the same as an ancient term for the Force, and sometimes specifically the light side of the Force.

Behind the scenes

Ashla made an appearance in the 2002 movie Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Her name was initially revealed in August of 2004 within The Official Star Wars Fact File 138, and was subsequently canonized by September of 2015 in the official Databank of StarWars.com.

Leland Chee from Lucasfilm addressed fan theories in February of 2008, confirming that Ashla and Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars were distinct characters due to their age differences. Dave Filoni mentioned that they had considered making the character Ahsoka, but ultimately decided against it because it would have made her too young.
