A command center constructed on the moon of Alaris Prime by members of the Wookiee species was the target of an attack perpetrated by a quartet of predatory gundarks at some point between 39 BBY and 36 BBY. This command center represented one of the initial Wookiee outposts established on Alaris Prime during their colonization endeavors there. Prior to this assault, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn had been providing instruction to a group of five Wookiee workers, teaching them techniques for the acquisition of diverse resources. After a brief time, the gundarks located and assailed the command center; however, the workers sought refuge inside the structure and utilized its turret to fire upon the creatures, ultimately killing all four. Subsequently, the Wookiee colonists initiated a counter-attack targeting the gundarks' nest with the intention of eliminating the species.
Between 59 BBY and 56 BBY, the Wookiee species originating from the planet of Kashyyyk rediscovered Alaris Prime, which is a moon belonging to the gas giant known as Alaris. These explorers, under the leadership of Wookiee Chieftain Attichitcuk, formally petitioned the Senate of the Galactic Republic requesting the right for their species to colonize Alaris Prime. Following a span of twenty years marked by extensive debate, the Wookiees were finally granted these rights and embarked toward the moon sometime between 39 BBY and 36 BBY. Attichitcuk was subsequently appointed as the leader of the colonists as a reward for his successful efforts within the Senate. Chewbacca](/article/chewbacca-legends), Attichitcuk's son, was also chosen to be among the leaders of the colonists, and Qui-Gon Jinn, a Master within the Jedi Order, was dispatched to Alaris Prime by the Jedi Council in order to provide assistance to the Wookiees.
Shortly after their arrival on the moon and the establishment of their initial base, the Wookiees experienced an attack from gundarks, a non-sentient predatory species. The Wookiees were successful in defeating these creatures and then proceeded to expand their colony, with the subsequent base being a solitary command center. Three Wookiee workers were stationed at this base, where Jinn instructed them on the methods of gathering food for the colony through the harvesting of fruit from muja fruit bushes. Later on, a fourth worker arrived at the base, and Jinn provided instruction on how to catch fish from the nearby river. Following the gathering of a sufficient quantity of food, another worker arrived at the command center. Subsequently, Jinn had the Wookiees engage in a training exercise involving retreating into the command center and utilizing its turret system to defend themselves against potential attacks from gundarks or other adversaries. After the drill, the workers began to collect carbon from the adjacent trees, which could be processed into duraplast for construction purposes. Chewbacca's arrival to assist at the base coincided with the approach of four gundarks toward the command center.
Jinn, employing the Force, detected the approaching gundarks and promptly alerted the five workers. They immediately stopped their resource gathering activities, retreated into the command center as they had practiced, and engaged the gundarks with the turret's firepower. Chewbacca also contributed to the defense by using his bowcaster to attack the creatures. Ultimately, all of the gundarks were killed without causing any significant damage to the command center or injury to the Wookiees.
The workers exited the command center and resumed their resource-gathering activities for the colony. Chewbacca conducted further scouting of the area surrounding the base, discovering deposits of nova crystals, a form of currency used throughout the galaxy, and ore, a mineral that could be refined into durasteel, which was valuable for reinforcing structures. The workers managed to acquire sufficient quantities of these resources to sustain the base. Following the attack on the command center, Jinn determined that it was time to take decisive action against the gundarks. He instructed the Wookiees to train a small army with the aim of wiping out the creatures at their nest. Upon launching their attack, the Wookiees encountered a squad of battle droids belonging to the Trade Federation, a corporation that had illegally initiated its own colonization efforts on Alaris Prime. This encounter led to a series of battles between the two factions, culminating in the Trade Federation's expulsion from the moon during the Battle for Alaris Prime.
The initial mention of the attack on the Wookiee command center appeared in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent, which was released on November 7, 2001. Subsequently, it was featured in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, released on November 11, 2001. The attack forms the basis of the second level in the Wookiee tutorial campaign, titled "Gathering Resources," where the player assumes control of the Wookiees and must defend against the gundark assault. The player can fail the level if the command center is destroyed during the gundark attack.
