A family of the Kage species originated from the planet Quarzite, located within the Inner Rim region. By the year 407 BBY, this family consisted of Barash Silvain, a female, along with her parents and siblings. Also, in that same year, it was discovered that Silvain, while still an infant, possessed Force-sensitive abilities, leading to her being taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, a Core Worlds planet, to receive training as a Jedi within the Jedi Order. Despite becoming a Jedi, Silvain retained memories of her family because of her eidetic memory and the fact that she was identified as Force-sensitive at a relatively older age.
In 397 BBY, Silvain shared her recollections of her family with her close Ikkrukkian Jedi friend, Porter Engle. Silvain, a Kage, told Engle she still felt the connection to her family, and while she didn't regret her path to the temple, she mourned the loss of her family life. Silvain then expressed to Engle that she had found a new family with him, and she asked him to be her brother, an offer that Engle accepted.
The family of Barash Silvain were initially referenced through flashback sequences in the third issue of the Star Wars: The High Republic — The Blade comic miniseries from 2022, part of the larger Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative's Phase II. Charles Soule wrote the issue, which Marvel Comics published on March 1, 2023.
