The conflict known as the Battle of Mos Espa, alternatively referred to as the Battle for Mos Espa, the showdown on Tatooine, or the Mos Espa turf war, unfolded between the Fett gotra and the Pyke Syndicate during the war against the Pykes.
Following the Pyke Syndicate's act of bombing Garsa Fwip's Sanctuary, Boba Fett and his team, consisting of Fennec Shand, Din Djarin, Krrsantan, his pair of Gamorrean guards, and the Mods, strategically positioned themselves around the city of Mos Espa in anticipation of the impending combat. Fett, Shand, and Djarin established a defensive line at the ravaged site of the Sanctuary, awaiting the imminent arrival of reinforcements from the citizens of Freetown, given Cobb Vanth's opposition to the spice trade.
Shortly after, Fett was met by his former mentor, Cad Bane, who, acting on behalf of the Pykes, attempted to convince Fett to surrender and permit the Pykes to continue their spice trade on Tatooine. Bane informed Fett that he had dealt with the inhabitants of Freetown and their sheriff, asserting that no assistance would be forthcoming. He also revealed the Pykes' responsibility for the massacre of the Tusken Raider tribe that had taken Fett in after his escape from the sarlacc pit. Fett maintained his composure and declared that the Pyke presence would not be tolerated. Bane departed, warning that refusal to surrender would result in the crushing defeat of Fett and his forces.
Fett contemplated his options with Shand and Djarin, but they soon received multiple urgent messages from their other gotra forces, revealing that the three crime families with whom Fett had brokered a truce had betrayed them. These families secretly opposed Fett's rule due to his restrictions on their revenue streams and their desire to seize the power vacuum that would arise from his elimination.
The Aqualish family engaged the Mods in the backstreets of Mos Espa, the Trandoshan family battled Krrsantan in the main thoroughfares, while the Klatooinians eliminated Boba's Gamorrean guards in the upper sprawl. Upon being informed of the situation, Fett inquired with Shaiz's majordomo about the syndicate's operational base. The majordomo initially evaded the question, but Shand threatened to shoot him, prompting him to reveal that they were operating out of the Desert Survey Office in Mos Eisley. Fett instructed Shand to proceed there to assassinate them, while he and the others would defend against the syndicate's assault.
Krrsantan initially struggled against the overwhelming number of Trandoshans, and the Mods were nearly overrun by the Aqualish. However, Shand responded to their call for help, eliminating most of the Aqualish attackers and forcing them to retreat. Shand then instructed the surviving Mods to proceed to the Sanctuary before departing the town. Similarly, Krrsantan defeated the Trandoshans and made his way to the Sanctuary.
Back at the Sanctuary, the Pykes appeared, with a Pyke capo demanding Fett's surrender. The majordomo offered to surrender in Fett's place, and Fett agreed, writing what the majordomo believed were surrender terms. However, upon meeting the capo, the majordomo discovered that Fett had made no concessions and attempted to change the subject, but to no avail. Fett and Djarin then emerged, having used the majordomo as a diversion. They eliminated many Pykes, and while the Pykes managed to land several shots, their beskar armor protected them from serious injuries, although they were nearly overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies. However, the Pykes were forced to retreat when the people of Freetown arrived to assist them, along with Fett's remaining forces. The people of Freetown were angered by the cold-blooded shooting of Vanth and recognized that the spice trade would harm the planet.
The Pykes then deployed two Scorpenek annihilator droids to resume their offensive. Due to the droids' shielding and the desire to avoid collateral damage to the town, Fett departed for his palace to retrieve his rancor, tasking Djarin with protecting their forces. Djarin managed to distract one droid while the other targeted the remaining forces. Fett returned with his rancor, and with the assistance of Djarin and Grogu, they managed to destroy the droid chasing them. Meanwhile, the Mods and Freetown forces inflicted significant casualties on the Pykes before Fett arrived and destroyed the other droid.
Fett and the rancor proceeded to eliminate several more Pykes before Bane appeared and scared the rancor off with his flamethrowers. Bane initially gained the upper hand on Fett, but Fett recovered and slew him with his Gaderffii stick. Djarin attempted to calm Fett's rancor, which had gone on a rampage and was further agitated by the Mods and Freetown forces firing upon it. He was unsuccessful, but Grogu managed to use The Force to lull the rancor to sleep, bringing the battle to a close.
