The Battle of Caluula, a conflict that transpired over a month in 29 ABY towards the conclusion of the Yuuzhan Vong War, saw a combined military force of the Galactic Alliance and Mandalorians clash with the Yuuzhan Vong.
Caluula was identified by Warmaster Nas Choka as a potential access point to the Tion Hegemony. Galactic Alliance Intelligence also considered Caluula, alongside Toong'L, as possible contingency locations for an offensive aimed at Mon Calamari. The planet possessed a limited defense force, primarily stationed at an orbital spacestation. With the HoloNet network offline, the survival of Caluula was largely dependent on Caluula Station.
Having arrived from the Battle of Selvaris, Han Solo and Princess Leia brought with them rescued prisoners who were originally intended as sacrifices on Yuuzhan'tar. Upon learning about the reduced number of potential sacrifices and the future strategic importance of Caluula, Supreme Overlord Shimrra gave the order to intensify the assault on the under-siege Caluula Station. A ychna spearheaded the assault on the station, deploying warriors that proceeded to board the structure. However, the Yuuzhan Vong and the Galactic Alliance were not the only entities aware of Caluula's significance. Mandalore Boba Fett had dispatched a team for reconnaissance and deployed a small contingent of Mandalorian Protectors. Witnessing the combat prowess of the Mandalorians, the Yuuzhan Vong warriors became highly agitated, striving to capture the Mandalorians for the upcoming sacrifice. This fervor led to infighting among the Yuuzhan Vong as they competed for the opportunity to engage the Mandalorians. Nevertheless, Fett and his team were able to secure enough time for the majority of Caluula Station's personnel, including the Solos, to evacuate to the planet's surface or escape into hyperspace. Shortly after the last personnel evacuated, Caluula Station was destroyed in an explosion.
Following the destruction of Caluula Station, the Governor of Caluula sent a communication to the Yuuzhan Vong, seeking a peaceful resolution. The Governor requested that the inhabitants be spared from surge-coral implantation and be allowed to coexist peacefully with the Yuuzhan Vong. An additional request was made: to permit a scientific team to observe the Nocturne of the Winged-Stars, which was scheduled to occur that year. In the interest of expediting yammosk implantation, Supreme Commander Malik Carr initially agreed to the request, but indicated that the final decision rested with High Prefect Drathul. The Galactic Alliance, however, secretly planned to use the team to eliminate the yammosk on the planet and to monitor the effects of the recently deployed Alpha Red bioweapon.
