The personal lightsaber of [Baylan Skoll](/article/baylan_skoll], a Jedi who became a mercenary, was his primary weapon.

Baylan Skoll, a human, constructed his lightsaber during his time as a student of the Jedi Order in the waning years of the Republic Era. As a Jedi, Skoll participated in the Clone Wars as a Jedi General and survived the Great Jedi Purge, subsequently becoming a mercenary. During his mercenary days, Skoll's lightsaber emitted an orange-red blade. Additionally, Skoll mentored Shin Hati, a human, as his apprentice, aiming to surpass the Jedi of old, in his view. As his apprentice, she also wielded a lightsaber with an orange-red blade.
Around 9 ABY, Skoll utilized his lightsaber throughout the search for Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn," who was missing on the extragalactic planet Peridea, where Skoll believed a significant power resided. Initially, during the attack on the New Republic starship Vesper, undertaken to rescue Morgan Elsbeth, his employer and Thrawn's future rescuer, he employed it to kill Captain Hayle and a multitude of Republic soldiers. Huyang, the architect droid who had originally assisted Skoll in constructing his lightsaber, identified the owner through a hologram of its hilt. Skoll later engaged Ahsoka Tano in a duel using his lightsaber. On Peridea, Skoll briefly used his lightsaber against Tano once more before continuing his personal quest.
The lightsaber of Baylan Skoll was initially seen in the teaser trailer for the Ahsoka television series, which premiered in August 2023.
Dave Filoni, the showrunner, stated that the orange-red color of Skoll's lightsaber, instead of the traditional red of the Sith, was a deliberate choice. He explained that he had always perceived Darth Vader's lightsaber as fluctuating in color, sometimes appearing more orange due to visual effects. Therefore, he wanted to create a double-colored lightsaber, not a purely orange one, to avoid viewers quickly drawing conclusions about Baylan Skoll's true allegiance.
