Bellis

Bellis, a Human male, resided on the planet of Ord Mantell with Lin, his wife. This was during the era of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. When the Separatist War erupted, instigated by Separatists aiming to overthrow the government of the planet, Bellis and Lin made their home in a house within Talloran village, a small settlement located on the island of Avilatan. Following the village's capture by the Separatists, Bellis began to spied on them, providing information to the Republic.

In 3643 BBY, during the year, the Separatists managed to steal a powerful ZR-57 orbital strike bomb from the Republic. This act prompted the Republic forces stationed on the planet to seek Bellis's assistance in locating the stolen weapon. Ultimately, Bellis successfully identified a supply outpost on the small island of Mannett Point as the bomb's location. After securing this information within his field box, Bellis reached out to the Republic forces to arrange a meeting for its delivery. Consequently, Havoc Squad, a unit of the Republic Special Forces, sent a newly inducted sergeant to Talloran village to rendezvous with Bellis. Regrettably, Separatists killed Bellis before the sergeant could arrive, though the soldier was able to recover the field box from Bellis's wife.

Biography

Bellis's wife, Lin

Bellis, a Human male, existed during the time of the Cold War that was waged between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. At some point in his life, Bellis married a Human female named Lin, and together they dwelled in a two-story house within Talloran village. This small settlement was situated on Avilatan, an island found on the planet of Ord Mantell. During Bellis and Lin's time on the planet, a group known as the Separatists initiated the Separatist War, rebelling against the Republic and Ord Mantell's government with the intention of seizing control of the planet. Talloran, Bellis's home village, was the first to be captured by the Separatists on Avilatan, who then fortified it to defend against potential Republic counterattacks.

During this period, Bellis operated as a spy for the Republic, reporting Separatist activities to Republic forces stationed at Fort Garnik, a Republic base near Talloran village. While serving as a Republic spy, Bellis and his wife remained in their home, where he kept his field box. This container was typically used by Republic agents to safeguard important intelligence. Bellis frequently risked his life to provide intelligence on Separatist activities to the Republic. He always met with Republic forces in person because the Separatists possessed the ability to monitor nearby communications through the use of signal tappers.

In 3643 BBY, during the year, the Separatists absconded with a ZR-57 orbital strike bomb belonging to the Republic, prompting the Republic to launch an effort to locate the weapon's hiding place. Bellis was among those the Republic enlisted for assistance, and he successfully discovered that the bomb had been moved to a Separatist-controlled supply outpost on Mannett Point, a small island situated off the coast of Avilatan. Once he obtained this information, Bellis encoded it, placed it in his field box, and then notified the Republic that he had learned the weapon's location. Commander Harron Tavus, the leader of Havoc Squad, a unit within the Republic Special Forces, arranged for the squad's newly recruited sergeant to meet with Bellis in a small alley within Talloran village to collect the information, as Bellis was unable to leave the Separatist-controlled village. However, before the sergeant could arrive, Separatists fatally shot killed Bellis, compelling the soldier to go to Bellis's house to retrieve the information from his field box. Upon learning of Bellis's death, Lin became deeply distraught and initially refused to hand over the field box to the sergeant, but she eventually relented, allowing the sergeant to take Bellis's information back to Fort Garnik. There, Republic forces reviewed Bellis's findings and initiated a mission to infiltrate the supply outpost on Mannett Point and recover the bomb.

Personality and traits

Bellis had brown hair and tan skin. At the time of his death, Bellis was clad in gray and white armor complemented by gray gloves and black knee-high boots. According to his wife, Lin, Bellis was a good man, and his primary motivations for assisting the Republic during the war on Ord Mantell were to earn a living and provide for his wife and himself. Upon hearing of his demise, his wife voiced her grief at losing him, as well as her anger at the soldier and the Republic that had failed to protect Bellis. As a spy, Bellis successfully uncovered information regarding the location of the stolen orbital strike bomb, and he adhered to standard procedures for Republic agents by encoding sensitive information and storing it in his field box.

Behind the scenes

Bellis makes his debut in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a 2011 MMORPG created by BioWare. He appears in "The Spy," an early quest available on Ord Mantell for players of the Trooper class. Within the quest, the player travels to Talloran village to meet with Bellis, only to discover his body. The player completes the mission by visiting Bellis's house, where they obtain the field box from Bellis's wife, Lin. Bellis's findings are revealed at the end of "The Ambush," the Trooper quest that immediately follows. The model used for Bellis's corpse is identical to that of Imperial Private Ralan, who wore clothing adorned with the crest of the Sith Empire on each shoulder. However, the game provides no explanation for the Republic agent's wearing of Imperial symbols. Bellis's location is also marked on a map in the Star Wars: The Old Republic Explorer's Guide, with an indicator for "The Spy."
