Lin

During the Cold War era, a female Human named Lin resided on the planet of Ord Mantell with her husband, Bellis. This period saw tensions rise between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. When the Separatist War erupted—a struggle between the Republic and Separatists seeking to destabilize the government of Ord Mantell—Lin and Bellis lived in a house located in Talloran village. This village, situated on the island of Avilatan, became the first to fall under Separatist control.

At that time, Bellis engaged in espionage activities against the Separatists on behalf of the Republic. However, in the year 3643 BBY, Separatist forces killed him while he awaited a meeting with a sergeant from the Republic Special Forces unit known as Havoc Squad in Talloran village. Lin discovered the tragic fate of her husband upon encountering the sergeant in her own home, where she was searching for Bellis's field box, a specialized container used by Republic agents for storing sensitive information. Overwhelmed by grief and directing her blame towards both the sergeant and the Republic, Lin ultimately handed over the box to the sergeant.

Biography

Lin after learning of her husband's death

Lin, a female of the Human species, existed during the period of the Cold War, a time of conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. She eventually married a man named Bellis, and together they shared a residence: a two-story house situated in Talloran village, a small community located near Fort Garnik on Avilatan, an island found on the planet of Ord Mantell. As time passed, the Separatist War began, pitting the Republic against a faction of Separatists who aimed to topple the government of Ord Mantell. Talloran village, where Lin and Bellis lived, became the first village on Avilatan to be captured by the Separatists, who then fortified it against any Republic counterattacks. During this time, Bellis supported the Republic by secretly spying on the activities of the Separatists. Despite their village being under Separatist occupation, Lin and Bellis remained in their home, and Bellis frequently risked his life to provide the Republic with crucial information about the Separatists.

In the year 3643 BBY, the Republic urgently needed to locate a recently stolen ZR-57 orbital strike bomb, leading them to seek Bellis's assistance. After acquiring intelligence about the bomb's location, Bellis arranged to meet with a newly appointed sergeant from Havoc Squad, a Republic Special Forces unit, within Talloran village. Tragically, Bellis was killed by Separatists before the sergeant could arrive. Upon learning of Bellis's death, the Havoc Squad sergeant proceeded to the couple's home to retrieve information regarding the bomb's whereabouts from Bellis's field box, a specialized container used by Republic agents for storing sensitive data. Initially, upon finding the sergeant inside her home, Lin mistakenly believed that the individual was a Separatist soldier attempting to break into her house. However, she quickly realized her error and reprimanded the sergeant for potentially exposing her husband's role as a spy. Subsequently, the sergeant informed her of Bellis's death, which deeply saddened Lin and ignited her anger towards both the Republic and the sergeant, whom she held responsible for Bellis's demise. Consumed by grief over her husband's death, Lin initially refused to hand over Bellis's field box to the sergeant.

The sergeant conveyed condolences to Lin regarding Bellis's death and endeavored to convince Lin to relinquish her husband's field box, asserting that Bellis would want the Republic to have the information and highlighting the significant number of lives at stake. For a brief period, Lin persisted in concealing the location of the field box despite the sergeant's pleas. Ultimately, however, Lin revealed its location within her home to the sergeant, who then advised her to evacuate Talloran before the Separatists targeted her home. Following this exchange, the sergeant departed, leaving Lin to mourn her husband.

Personality and traits

Lin possessed brown hair, a fair complexion, and blue eyes. She sometimes adorned herself with a small piece of jewelry that cascaded from her hair onto her forehead. Lin deeply loved and cared for her husband, and the news of his death caused her immense distress. In her anger and grief, Lin rebuked the Republic sergeant who delivered the news, criticizing the Republic's failure to protect her husband. She also expressed her belief that the war and the planet on which it was fought were insignificant, and that Bellis had only worked for the Republic to secure a home and livelihood for them both.

Despite the sergeant's expressions of sympathy, Lin continued to blame the soldier for failing to safeguard her husband's life. After handing over her husband's field box to the sergeant, Lin remained in her home to grieve his loss.

Behind the scenes

Lin's first appearance is in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a 2011 MMORPG developed by BioWare. She is a key character in "The Spy," an early quest available to players of the Trooper class on the planet Ord Mantell. The player encounters her in her home in Talloran village after discovering that her spy husband is dead. Instead of persuading Lin to give up the field box out of loyalty to her husband or out of desire to protect others, the trooper can also threaten her in order to obtain the field box, which causes the player to receive dark side points. However, this article is written with the assumption that the player only selects light side options.
