A alarm system known as a blood alarm was capable of transmitting a notification via a comm to designated individuals upon activation of a blood-sensitive sensor. This sensor was designed to detect the presence of spilled blood. Back in 32 BBY, Captain Quarsh Panaka saw to the installation of a blood alarm, complete with its sensor, within the apartments of Queen Padmé Amidala located inside the Theed Royal Palace on the planet Naboo in the Mid Rim.
During that year, the blood-sensitive sensor was set off when Saché, one of Amidala's handmaiden, experienced the start of her period. The blood alarm notification was then dispatched to the captain, prompting an investigation by him and his wife, Mariek Panaka. The situation caused considerable embarrassment for Saché when they entered the rooms and discovered the reason for the alarm. Subsequently, Mariek assisted the handmaiden with cleaning up, while also scolding Quarsh for the installation of a blood alarm in living quarters occupied by young girls.
A alarm system functioning as a blood alarm utilized a blood-sensitive sensor, which is a specialized sensor designed to identify instances of blood spillage. Should the sensor be triggered, the blood alarm would then dispatch a comm notification to specified recipients, serving as an alert.

As part of his security measures in 32 BBY, Captain Quarsh Panaka of the Royal Naboo Security Forces procured a blood alarm system, complete with a blood-sensitive sensor. He then arranged for the installation of both components within the apartments of Queen Padmé Amidala inside the Theed Royal Palace on the planet Naboo in the Mid Rim. On one occasion, Eirtaé, one of Amidala's handmaiden, inadvertently triggered the sensor by pricking her finger with a sewing needle, thus activating the alarm.
Later that year, the blood-sensitive sensor in Amidala's rooms was activated by the commencement of Saché's period, another handmaiden, when blood stained the queen's bedsheets. Consequently, the blood alarm that Panaka had set up in the apartment was triggered, sending an alert to his comm device. He and his wife, officer Mariek Panaka, promptly made their way to Amidala's apartments to ascertain the reason for the alarm and ensure Amidala's well-being. Upon entering the rooms noisily, they startled Saché from her sleep and switched on the lights. After realizing that the handmaiden's period had begun, Mariek dismissed Quarsh and proceeded to assist a deeply embarrassed Saché in cleaning the bedroom sheets and finding new sleeping attire.
Following this incident, Mariek reassured Quarsh of Amidala's safety and then reproached him for installing a blood alarm and its sensor in an area inhabited by young teenage girls, some of whom were not yet using suppressant shots to regulate their menstrual cycles. The captain, feeling embarrassed, promised to apologize later. In 22 BBY, Sabé, a former handmaiden of Amidala, recalled the event and Quarsh's dismay upon understanding the reason for the activation of his blood-sensitive sensor's alarm.
The concept of a blood alarm initially appeared in Queen's Peril, a novel penned by E. K. Johnston in 2020. During the development phase of Queen's Peril, Johnston noted that several members of Lucasfilm Story Group expressed the opinion that the scene involving a blood alarm was exceptionally awkward and provided comments on the draft after reviewing it. Nevertheless, the author remained committed to including the scene in the work.
