Sensors designed to detect blood were a specific type of sensor capable of identifying the presence of spilled blood. These sensors were designed to function in conjunction with a blood alarm system, alerting individuals through a comm system upon activation. Back in 32 BBY, Captain Quarsh Panaka made the decision to install a blood-sensitive sensor within the apartments of Queen Padmé Amidala located inside the Theed Royal Palace on the planet Naboo, situated in the Mid Rim.
During that same year, the sensor was activated when Saché, one of Amidala's handmaiden, experienced the start of her period. Consequently, it sent a blood alarm notification to the captain, prompting him and his wife, Mariek Panaka, to launch an investigation. Saché was deeply embarrassed upon their entry and discovery of the situation. Subsequently, Mariek assisted the handmaiden in obtaining fresh sleeping attire and reprimanded Quarsh for installing a blood-sensitive sensor in areas occupied by teenage girls.
A blood-sensitive sensor was a device designed to detect when blood had been spilled, and are a specific type of sensor. When the sensor was triggered, a blood alarm would activate, sending notifications to individuals through a comm system. The sensor lacked the ability to distinguish the origin or significance of the blood spillage, triggering a full alert regardless of whether the spillage was substantial or minimal.

As part of his efforts to enhance security within the Theed Royal Palace on the planet Naboo in the Mid Rim, Captain Quarsh Panaka of the Royal Naboo Security Forces procured a blood sensor. He then proceeded to install it within the apartments of Queen Padmé Amidala in 32 BBY. Subsequently, the sensor was inadvertently triggered when Eirtaé, one of Amidala's handmaiden, accidentally pricked her finger with a sewing needle.
Later in that same year, Saché, another handmaiden, chose to slept in Amidala's bed while the queen and her other handmaidens were at a concert performed by the band Neurotransmitter Affection. During the night, her period began, resulting in bloodstains on the bedsheets. Shortly thereafter, the sensor installed by Panaka in the apartment was activated, sending a blood alarm alert to his comm device. Consequently, he and his wife, officer Mariek Panaka, hurried to Amidala's apartments to determine the cause of the disturbance and ensure the queen's well-being. They startled Saché out of her sleep and turned on the lights when they entered the rooms loudly.
After realizing that the handmaiden had begun menstruating, Mariek dismissed Quarsh, claiming that there was no emergency. Saché was mortified by the situation and excused herself to retrieve sanitary products from the bathroom, while the older officer assisted in acquiring new sheets and cleaning sleeping attire. Subsequently, Mariek assured Quarsh that Amidala was safe, while also scolding him for installing a blood-sensitive sensor in a room occupied by young teenage girls, some of whom were not yet using suppressant shots to regulate their menstrual cycles. The captain felt embarrassed and promised to apologize later. In 22 BBY, Sabé, one of Amidala's former handmaidens, fondly recalled the incident and Quarsh's horror upon realizing the reason for the blood-sensitive sensor's activation.
The blood-sensitive sensor made its debut appearance in Queen's Peril, a 2020 novel authored by E. K. Johnston. During the development phase of Queen's Peril, Johnston noted that several members of the Lucasfilm Story Group expressed concerns that the scene involving the blood-sensitive sensor was extremely awkward and provided feedback on the draft after reviewing it. However, the author strongly advocated for the scene's inclusion in the work.
