Bray was a planet shrouded in darkness, the native world of the Brayan species. During the Clone Wars conflict, Count Dooku made his base of operations within a citadel, sharing it with Ravna, a mutated being possessing the power to transform others into entities of his kind. Dooku devised a strategy to let Ravna spread infection among the Brayan people, with the ultimate goal of using converted clone troopers to secretly join the ranks of the Republic army; however, the Jedi Council intervened, disrupting these plans.
The creature known as Lord Ravna established a presence on Bray, seizing control of the Citadel of Light and claiming it as his residence. From this Citadel, Ravna initiated the infection of the Brayan population in a nearby village, transforming them into mutant creatures resembling himself.

Amidst the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic grew suspicious that the planet was a hub for Separatist activities. Consequently, the Jedi Council were quick to act when they intercepted a distress signal originating from the planet. Two Jedi Masters, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Adi Gallia, were sent to Bray, accompanied by Commander Cody and his 7th Sky Corps. Kenobi and Gallia encountered one of Ravna's creations, which proceeded to infect the clone trooper named Peel. The Jedi investigated the Citadel, uncovering Count Dooku's alliance with Lord Ravna, revealing their scheme to use Ravna's creatures to corrupt the Republic army and bring about its downfall. During a confrontation between Dooku and the Jedi Masters, Dooku was infected by Ravna, but he resisted with Kenobi's aid. As Dooku battled Ravna, the Jedi caused the Citadel to collapse, burying the creature beneath its remains. With Ravna contained, the Brayans were liberated, and his existence faded into legend.
Bray made its initial appearance in a flashback sequence within the 2018 canon comic book Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle 2, penned by Cavan Scott and visually brought to life by Kelley Jones. Its name pays homage to the film and television production facility known as Bray Studios, a location where many well-known horror films were produced, including the 1966 film Dracula: Prince of Darkness, which featured Count Dooku's actor, Christopher Lee, in the title role.
