Brockway held the rank of lieutenant general within the New Republic's army, commanding their ground forces in the battle against the Galactic Empire on the planet Jakku. This conflict took place in 5 ABY according to the year system. Due to General [Tyben]'s presence on the planet Chandrila with the Republic's Chancellor Mon Mothma, Brockway took command. This was done to ensure continued military leadership for the New Republic in the event of defeat on Jakku. Throughout the engagement, Tyben received updates on Brockway's troops and conferred with Fleet Admiral Gial Ackbar via hologram, while Brockway directed the battle strategy on the ground. Despite ultimately achieving victory, the New Republic suffered significant casualties, and Imperial forces continued to resist for several months following the battle on Jakku.
