CK-6 swoop bike

The CK-6 swoop bikes, also known as freeco bikes, represented a specialized type of swoop bike, engineered with modifications enabling operation in extremely cold environments. These vehicles were deployed by clone troopers serving within the Galactic Republic, with the majority of functional CK-6 units assigned to the limited number of cold-weather assault units within the Grand Army's structure. A key feature of the freeco bikes was a heated cockpit, specifically designed to shield the pilot from the harsh, freezing temperatures outside. Furthermore, they were armed with a pair of laser cannons.

Bespin Motors manufactured the CK-6 swoop bikes for the Galactic Republic. These vehicles, commonly referred to as freeco bikes – a term used by clone troopers as shorthand for "freezing cold" – were compact, rapid, single-occupant swoop bikes optimized for operation in arctic and sub-zero conditions. Essentially militarized versions of the JR-4 swoops, Bespin Motors secured the order for the CK-6 to conduct cold-weather trials on Orto Plutonia, an ice planet notorious for its severe blizzards and intense cold. These streamlined swoops measured 5.8 meters in length and featured an insulated cockpit that enclosed the pilot, along with two thrusters positioned at the rear within port and starboard nacelles. During their relatively brief service within the Grand Army of the Republic, these swoop bikes developed a reputation for their robustness and dependability. Their operational range and agility, with a top speed of approximately 440 kilometers per hour, were virtually unparalleled among militarized swoop bikes. The CK-6 swoop bike had a price tag of 4,500 credits.

The majority of operational CK-6 swoop bikes were assigned to the limited number of clone cold assault trooper units deployed by the GAR. These units utilized the bikes for tasks such as reconnaissance, courier duties, and basic battlefield transportation. For defensive purposes, the CK-6 was equipped with a forward-mounted dual light laser cannon. Additionally, the bikes incorporated short-range sensors , multi-spectrum headlights, and landing skis.

History

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker used CK-6 swoops on Orto Plutonia.

Clone troopers employed freeco bikes during the One-Day War, a conflict that unfolded on Orto Plutonia during the era of the Clone Wars. Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi utilized these bikes to travel and engage with the local Talz population. Subsequently, Clone Captain Rex and a contingent of clones retreated from the Talz after they were incited by Chairman Chi Cho. Pursued by the Talz and their narglatch mounts, the clones dismounted in front of a canyon and established a defensive position, utilizing their bikes as protective cover. Several troopers were killed by spears until Senator Riyo Chuchi successfully resolved the conflict through diplomacy, achieving success where Chairman Cho had failed.

Behind the scenes

The design of the freeco bikes was specifically created for "Trespass," the fifteenth episode of Season One of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
