Clone scout troopers, alternatively referred to as clone scouts, were specialized clone troopers who fought for the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. These troopers received training in reconnaissance and combat across challenging landscapes. A battalion of scout troopers was sent to the planet Kashyyyk as the war neared its end, where they joined forces with the native Wookiees to oppose the droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Clone scout troopers represented a unique type of clone trooper within the Galactic Republic's forces, specializing in reconnaissance and combat in difficult or unforgiving environments. Prior to larger troop engagements, small units of these scouts would be dispatched to assess the terrain. Their honed survival skills made them particularly adept at fighting in wild, untamed settings.
In the Clone Wars' final year, the 41st Scout Battalion—commanded by Jedi Generals Yoda and Luminara Unduli, alongside Clone Commander Gree—was deployed to the planet Kashyyyk to support the Wookiees in their struggle against the Separatist Droid Army. As Confederate forces assaulted the beach, scout troopers were assigned to defend Kachirho, Kashyyyk's capital. Utilizing barricades and trenches for protection, the scout troopers and Wookiees clashed fiercely with the battle droids. Some scout troopers acted as sharpshooters along Tree Kachirho, with many more positioned atop the seawall.
During the conflict, Commander Gree received Order 66 from Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine and moved to execute it. He approached Grand Master Yoda and the Wookiee generals on a high command post overlooking the battle, preparing to fire on his commanding officer. However, the Jedi sensed a significant disturbance in the Force as Order 66 unfolded across the galaxy, and preemptively beheaded Gree and Captain Jek before they could execute him.
Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, the Grand Army of the Republic was reorganized into the Imperial Army and Stormtrooper Corps. Similar to the Republic, the Empire employed its own scout troopers, who participated in operations throughout the Imperial Era.
Clone scout troopers were outfitted with camouflaged Phase II ARF armor and received specialized training in reconnaissance tactics. Furthermore, scout troopers carried survival equipment and had macrobinoculars integrated into their helmet.
