41st Scout Battalion

The 41st Scout Battalion functioned as a distinguished infantry and armor battalion within the 41st Elite Corps of the Grand Army of the Republic. This unit participated in the Clone Wars, a massive galactic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During 19 BBY, the decision was made for Jedi General Yoda to command a battalion in support of the Wookiees stationed on Kashyyyk. Subsequently, the 41st Scout Battalion was deployed to this planet, engaging in the Battle of Kashyyyk and later participating in the execution of Order 66 as a component of the Great Jedi Purge.

This battalion was easily identifiable by its green camouflage Phase II ARF armor. They also made use of All Terrain Attack Pods, All Terrain Reconnaissance Transports, BARC speeders, HAVw A6 Juggernauts, and Infantry Support Platforms. The battalion operated under the command structure of Jedi General Yoda, along with Jedi General Luminara Unduli and Clone Commander Gree.

Description

The 41st Scout Battalion was a specialized infantry and armor subunit belonging to the 41st Elite Corps within the Grand Army of the Republic. Its leadership was comprised of Jedi General Yoda, Jedi General Luminara Unduli, and Clone Commander Gree. Being a part of the Grand Army, this battalion consisted of four companies, each containing 144 troopers.

The battalion was primarily made up of clone scout troopers clad in green camouflaged clone trooper armor. The 41st Scout specialized in conducting reconnaissance and engaging in combat across challenging terrains, notably including areas with dense vegetation. Consequently, members of this unit wore Phase II ARF armor to enhance their mobility and flexibility. Their helmet incorporated a sunshield, a broadened visor, and an overall design that facilitated a wider field of vision while navigating jungle-rainforest environments. The battalion also employed HAVw A6 Juggernauts, All Terrain Attack Pods, Infantry Support Platforms, and BARC speeders. Upon deployment to the planet Kashyyyk, the battalion was transported aboard a Venator-class Star Destroyer.

History

The battalion participated in the Battle of Kashyyyk.

During the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance that followed the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY, the Jedi High Council made the determination to deploy an attack force to Kashyyyk with the objective of reinforcing the Wookiee Army against an impending Separatist invasion. The decision was made to dispatch the 41st Scout Battalion of the 41st Elite Corps. Shortly thereafter, the corps gathered at a staging area located on Coruscant as equipment and vehicles were loaded onto a Venator-class Star Destroyer. Jedi General Yoda then arrived to assume command of the battalion.

Upon arrival on Kashyyyk, the 41st Scout established defensive positions in Kachirho, the primary city on Kashyyyk, and proceeded to offload vehicles and equipment alongside the Kachirho Wookiee Militia. While stationed on Kashyyyk, the battalion was under the leadership of Jedi Generals Yoda and Luminara Unduli, as well as Clone Commander CC-1004 "Gree." As the Battle of Kashyyyk commenced, the battalion took up defense of the beachhead against the attacking Separatist forces. Members of the battalion were strategically positioned both on the beach itself, along with city structures and the prominent trees surrounding the city. During the conflict, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine of the Republic, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, initiated the Great Jedi Purge through the activation of Order 66, a directive that designated the Jedi as traitors.

Commander Gree received the order from Palpatine within the command center, and he and Clone Captain Jek maneuvered to kill Yoda. However, Yoda sensed Palpatine's treachery and the deaths of his Jedi peers across the galaxy, and preemptively beheaded Gree and Jek before they could discharge their blasters. Subsequently, the two Wookiees standing alongside Yoda, Chewbacca and General Tarfful, aided Yoda in his departure from the city, but were unsuccessful in preventing his escape from the planet via an escape pod.

Behind the scenes

The 41st Scout Battalion made its initial appearance, although unnamed at the time, in the 2005 theatrical Skywalker saga film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The organization's name was officially revealed as the 41st Scout Battalion in Star Wars Battlefront II through an update released on June 26, 2019, after first being announced in a community transmissions post for the video game on May 23. Similar to the 41st Ranger Platoon, the 41st Scout Battalion shares its numerical designation with its parent unit, the 41st Elite Corps.
