The Coruscant shipyard functioned as both a shipyard and a staging area, situated on the Core World known as Coruscant. During the era of the Clone Wars, this shipyard was strategically positioned near the Republic Center for Military Operations, making it a vital center for the Galactic Republic. After the Republic transformed into the Galactic Empire, the Coruscant shipyard remained operational under the new Imperial authority.

Located on the surface of Coruscant, the Galactic Republic's capital planet, the Coruscant shipyard was strategically placed adjacent to the Republic Center for Military Operations. This shipyard and staging area featured a minimum of six trenches, each stretching five kilometers in length. One such trench, Trench Alpha-7, could accommodate up to four Venator-class Star Destroyers in a sequential arrangement. Boarding ramps and cranes were strategically positioned throughout the trenches, facilitating the movement of personnel and equipment onto the starships, including Grand Army of the Republic walkers which were directly loaded into the ships' hangars. The shipyard was monitored by six control towers, one assigned to each trench.
To facilitate maintenance and upgrades, capital ships were secured on substantial support pylons. Within the trenches, multiple hangars housed Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighters, and various models of droids, including those using repulsor platforms, provided support. Clone trooper units maintained security around the trenches and docked ships, while underground control stations and power generators supplied the shipyard's energy needs.
Throughout the duration of the Clone Wars, the Coruscant shipyard was used extensively. When the Separatist Alliance launched an invasion of the neutral planet Scipio, a fleet under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker was assembled at the shipyard before departing for the Battle of Scipio. Subsequently, High Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and his 7th Sky Corps convened at the shipyard, accompanied by several Star Destroyers, in preparation for the Battle of Utapau. Furthermore, the 41st Elite Corps gathered at the shipyard in anticipation of the Battle of Kashyyyk.

Following the Republic's transformation, the Galactic Empire continued to utilize the shipyard, while the Republic Center for Military Operations was repurposed as the Naval Intelligence Headquarters. After Vice Admiral Rampart's attack on Kamino, which resulted in the destruction of all Kaminoan cities and facilities, including Tipoca City, Rampart's flagship, the VZ-114, was docked at the shipyard for retrofitting. The crew of VZ-114 were granted leave, during which crew members Slip and Cade visited 79's. Cade revealed their intention to expose Rampart's destruction of Kamino to the Imperial Senate. However, before he could act, he was killed by a clone assassin dispatched by Rampart. In response, Slip contacted Senator Riyo Chuchi, a proponent of clone rights, as well as Clone Wars veteran Clone Captain Rex. After Slip's assassination by the same assassin who killed Cade, Rex and Chuchi sought assistance from the renegade Clone Force 99. Upon arriving on Coruscant, they determined that the only way to substantiate Slip's claims was to retrieve VZ-114's command log, stored in the ship's backup databanks. They decided to infiltrate the ship while it was undergoing maintenance in the shipyards.
Clone Force 99, accompanied by Rex, gained entry to the shipyard through the underground network of power stations that Rex and Echo had mapped during the Clone Wars. Successfully bypassing the clone security, they boarded a repulsor platform, which Tech commandeered using his datapad to approach VZ-114. Once within range, they leaped onto the hull and entered through a maintenance hatch. They discreetly neutralized the ship's skeleton crew and reached the bridge, only to discover that accessing the databanks required rerouting power from the shipyard to the ship. This action alerted the shipyard monitoring stations to the unusual power transfer to a supposedly inactive ship, prompting the dispatch of a security team to investigate. Clone Force 99 engaged the security team, and after successfully retrieving the command log, they used the bridge consoles to seize control of the turbolasers, destroying the V-wings that had been deployed to secure the facility.

As more clone reinforcements arrived on the ship, Echo activated its engines, causing it to break free from its restraints and slide down the trench, scattering the clones below. Capitalizing on the chaos, the renegade clones reached the bridge escape pods and launched them away from the ship. With the combined efforts of Echo and Tech, they successfully landed near a maintenance shaft and escaped the facility undetected. However, the shipyard sustained significant damage from the massive ship, with portions of it catching fire and the support pylons destroyed. Consequently, several Imperial LAATs, accompanied by additional V-wings, were dispatched to secure the shipyard. Following the attack, fleet operations were relocated off-world for security considerations.
