A specialized version of the B2-series super battle droids, featuring cortosis-enhanced armor, was secretly developed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. This occurred on the planet Mokivj, located in proximity to the end of the Clone Wars, specifically in 19 BBY. These units were constructed within the Mokivj droid factory under the supervision of Duke Solha, along with his brother and sister. Upon discovering the cortosis super battle droids and their production facility, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker deemed them a significant danger, describing them as "unstoppable" and a major threat to both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. Consequently, he resolved to destroy the factory, all existing droids, and the cortosis mine to prevent further Separatist production on Mokivj. Despite objections from Senator Padmé Amidala, Thrawn, and LebJau, Skywalker initiated an explosion in the mine. The resulting blast, amplified by the cortosis, triggered volcanic activity, leading to a catastrophe on the planet. The cortosis B2 super battle droid possessed the same armaments and height as the standard model. However, the inclusion of cortosis in their armor significantly increased their weight and provided near-total immunity to lightsabers and blaster fire across their entire structure, with the exception of their optical sensors, which remained unprotected. Like the standard B2-series battle droid, they were armed with a dual wrist blaster.
The cortosis B2 super battle droid was a variant of the B2-series super battle droid, sharing the same firepower, height, color scheme, and sensor capabilities as the original. These droids were manufactured by Duke Solha on the planet Mokivj and saw action during the Devastation of Mokivj, where they engaged Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Senator Padmé Amidala, and Chiss Commander Thrawn in combat. The factory responsible for their production, along with all existing cortosis B2 super battle droids, was destroyed.
In 19 BBY, Count of Serenno Dooku tasked Duke Solha, along with his brother and sister, with overseeing the mining operations, cortosis processing, and manufacturing of both the cortosis B2 variant and cortosis clone trooper armor on Mokivj. To facilitate this, Solha and his siblings utilized a fortress that predated the Clone Wars, converting it into a production hub for both cortosis clone trooper armor and the cortosis battle droids.
During the assault on Solha's factory, cortosis B2 super battle droids played a role in defending the facility against attackers from the Jedi and the Chiss Ascendancy. These droids served as escorts for Solha within the factory, protecting him from Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight and one of the attackers. Following Skywalker's attempt to disorient Solha's super battle droid escort, the battle droids then laid siege to the raiders who were in another area of the factory.
The cortosis B2 super battle droids made an appearance in Timothy Zahn's 2018 novel, Thrawn: Alliances.
